    Hi,

Anyone having SMTP issues sending mail via Vodafone on both cellular and broadband networks this morning?

Trying to send an email via. my iPhone and it’s not sending and staying in the outbox.

Settings etc haven’t changed. Outgoing server mail.vodafone.ie and port 25

    Anyone else having issues?

They sent a email a few weeks ago saying it was being discontinued.

Not the Vodafone mail email address but the server anyone who is on their network (cellular or broadband) uses in order to send mail. The outgoing server has been temperamental the past few days

Enable telnet on a Windows box and telnet this address:
    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: mail.vodafone.ie
    Address: 213.233.128.65
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/mail-flow/test-smtp-with-telnet?view=exchserver-2019

That'll give you a basic idea of its status. Nothing on their twitter but as its Sunday the people who are likely using SMTP still are also likely inactive.

My understanding is that is is what you are referring to?

We recently emailed you in regards to you potentially using vodafone.ie relay system.

This relay system removes spam and directs your emails correctly.

As Vodafone no longer supply an email service, this relay function will no longer be available from 12th November 2018. If you think you may be using this relay system, you will need to check that your new email provider has this function set up so that you do not encounter any disruption to your emails.

What is an email relay system?

An inbound mail relay receives emails addressed to your domain and redirects them to your main mail server. It filters any emails containing spam or viruses.

An outbound mail relay receives emails addressed to external addresses from your main mail server and sends them to the appropriate mail servers. It also filters any emails containing spam or viruses.

As Vodafone no longer supply the vodafone.ie email service, the relay service will no longer be available from 12th November 2018

    What you need to do...

If you have not changed your settings to an external mail relay provider by 12th of November, you won't be able to send or receive emails.

Most users will have a new email provider. Their new providers will offer a mail relay service. If not, there are many services available for you to choose at your discretion

If a user is not set up with a relay system, how can they do this?

This will vary based on the provider, please see some examples outlined below:

    Gmail

    How to change: Click here

    Yahoo

    How to change: Click here

    Apple Mail

    How to check: Click here

    Outlook

    How to change: Click here

    How to check: Click here

    Outlook express

Please ensure you have changed your settings to an external mail relay provider by 12th of November 2018 or you will not be able to send or receive emails.

    Kind Regards
    The Vodafone team

I think the issue affects if you have an @eircom.net email address as my outlook and icloud emails are sending ok.

Any idea what smtp server to use now for sending @eircom.net emails?
