Ownership of road

Can someone own a country road literally a boreen (not taken in charge) not having ownership of land either side of this road? Only just discovered that the road frontage in front of my property is still registered with the seller. I thought that the property rights extended to to the centre of the road fronting my property. Bit of a shock given that that I own the land one side of the road and someone else owns land the other side. Presume at some time the seller owned the land (and road) either side but to find out 30 years later!!!! Any advice appreciated.

You pay a solicitor to take care of details like this. At the very least, you needed to make sure that you have a right of way to your property along that road, ditto the guy the other side of the road.

    Q. Can someone own a country road literally a boreen (not taken in charge) not having ownership of land either side of this road?

    A. Yes he can. If it's not taken into charge, someone has to own it.

    Q. Do your 'property rights' extend to the centre of the road fronting your property?

    A. Not automatically, which is what you appear to be suggesting. If they did, your neighbour who lives on the other side of the road would be trespassing on your property every time he either drove in or out of the road you share.

    How did you discover this?

The road is going to be turned into a cul de sac and it was only when i was checking land folio for my property that i spotted it!

And who is turning the road into a cul de sac?
