Hi all, I have a 2008 2.0 dci Renault trafic with very hard hot start.

If engine is up to running temp and I turn it off and start straight away it will start ok but if engine hot and leave sitting for any more than 15 min I can forget about starting it without easy start. Very easy cold start and no smoke, no fault codes, no lights on in dash and no loss of power. 250,000 km on clock. Injectors where removed and tested perfect. Compression good

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Hard starting hot is not that common on diesel, but the heat could be effecting cam / crank sensor that is on it way out or worse similar for the injection pump.

Thanks for advice. I will try them next and see what happens.

could be air leaking into a fuel supply line.

What are you scanning it with?

Lazy starter motor is another possibility.

A few things to check on the live data when cranking whilst hot:

    1 fuel pressure
    2 Coolant temperature
    3 cam and crank signals

Also, was the timing chain worked on recently, or is it noisy?

I would also agree with this.
You may think the starter is perfect but it may not be reaching the required rpm for the injectors to crack, it will swing all day but if it dose not get to the required rpm it is getting no diesel.
Check the cranking rpm when it wont start.
Have seen this on an insignia, Vectra and Passat in last few weeks.

Starter is new, new battery also. Will do few more checks on Delphi when I get chance. Thanks all for input greatly appreciated

If the starter was weak, the rail pressure would be below the level where the ECU would fire the injectors, and might log a low fuel pressure fault code. That's why I'm suggesting a look at the pressure during a hot crank!

Will get live data details and put them up cold readings vs hot. Thanks everyone for your help

Worth asking if the starter was replaced prior to the issue developing or as a result of it? Wouldn't be the first time a new part was faulty.

Also worth checking the voltage at the starter to eliminate any wiring issue if not already done.

Starter is 100% couldn't be any better.
