Tax on Old age pension

    Am I right in saying that for a pensioner who pays tax at the top rat of 40%, he needs to deduct just 40% from the gross SW payment for tax, and that there is no PRSI etc levied on it.

    That's correct, assuming in your scenario the 20% band and all credits have been fully utilised against other income.
