Is it a homeless crisis or an entitlement crisis

While i dont doubt that homelessness is a problem in this country it does seem that much of it is self inflicted by those who simply want to pick and choose what type of house they want to live in and the location they want to reside in. Its amazing when you hear all these sob stories about those who are supposedly homeless and suffering from poverty yet they can afford to keep having lots of children. To go on holidays for a week, money to buy alcohol or cigarettes and everything else, to turn somewhere down because it doesnt have a garden thats big enough or not enough space.

Surely if you're in such a desperate situation you wouldnt be that picky where you live and would just be grateful to have a roof over your head. Not to mention having children you cant afford making the situation a whole lot worse but it seems that every case that you hear on the news or social media is dominated by those with that very mentality who claim to be homeless that follow the exact same pattern coincidence i think not. Yes homelessness is a genuine problem in this country but so is gross entitlement which also needs to be highlighted.

Local Authorities are now making it very clear that if you refuse an offer of a property , you will not be considered again for a least two years .

It's to fill the space between the Poppy Thread and the Christmas threads.

    No they are not,
local authorities are still using up to 3 refusals in a 12 month period before they apply any sanction which in turn can be over turned by local councillor's

Is that true? If so then great. It's a start at least

And rightly so there are those in genuine need who may want it whether its garden is big enough or how many rooms are in it if you dont accept it then you can go without simple as that no one is obliged to give you the home you want.

    I beg your pardon , you're right

It's two properties in a twelve month period.

I was at a meeting with an allocations officer recently when he said that.

    Apologies.

The entitlement bit is hardly a crisis. The 'entitled' people you describe are also shameless, they don't shy away from media attention. I doubt they are very representative.

If it's down to entitlement that would mean for example that there's been a large increase in entitled people living in tents on canal banks. I just don't buy it sorry.

Another dole thread? haven't had one of them in while

As opposed to the other numerous threads about the same topics on this site there's only so much that can be discussed things are bound to be similar.

OP I say this to you and all the other people who start dole threads, why can't you try to improve your lot in life rather than focus on people on the dole? I can't imagine you're happy with your lot judging by the amount of dole threads started.

And I’ll say this to you.

People like you are always giving out about the government and their pensions etc.

Why don’t you try improve your life rather than focus on the government?

It's not an entitlement or homelessness crisis.
    It's a housing crisis.
The issue is a lack of supply of new build housing that is having the knock on effect of putting some people out on the street as a result of the rent prices being pushed up by opportuniistic landlords.

Are some people out there looking for handouts? Of course there are but it isn't the cause of the crisis at hand.

    Glazers Out!

Escuse me you know absolutely nothing about my situation which is far from rosy but i try my best and im not having a pop at anyone on the dole when ive been in that situation myself. There's many genuine people out there who are trying their utmost best to improve the situation they are in and who need all the support they can get but theres many others who are simply taking the piss with no intention but entitlement they are the ones i take issue with not those who are genuine.
