How does moving in with my brother effect my payments?

    Hello,

My sole income is Back to Education Allowance and Rent Allowance. I'm a full-time undergrad student. Single, No-Kids.

I've been given notice to leave my flat of 6 years due to my landlord selling up. Sad times but that is life.

Anyway, I am looking at all my options one of which is moving in with my baby brother.

He's 21, not currently employed, not on social welfare but moving in with me will mean he'll have access to employment opportunities and supports.

Basically, if I were to do that how would that affect things?

Would I have to add his income to mine for things means testing and declaring income?

The advice I have been given off Threshold is to apply for HAP and go on the housing list. Would I have to include him in the process too?

    Thanks :)

Your BTEA will not be affected by your living with your brother.
As for your other queries, where will you and your brother be living, who else will be living there, if he’s not working or on SW then what is his source of income?

We would have to find a place, if that would even be possible these days. But we don't know will that even be possible as I won't be able to live anywhere without HAP or the likes.

My brother has no source of income but moving to Dublin might help with that as he hopefully will get a job. He's living with our parents in rural the west of Ireland where there is no employment basically.

I can't move home because the commute would be 4.5/5 hours each way for me to get to university. I'm only in 2nd year of a 4 year course. I have been living and working in Dublin for 10 years, independent of my parents.

I'm being realistic about it and preparing myself for the possibility homelessness but I just want to know what all my options are.
