Convertible Audi TT S - roof reliability / costs?

(tossup between here and the diy forum - mods move if needed)

So.. the time has come for a new motor.

I'm thinking a MK 2 Audi TT (S variant). Happy to go with a coupe but love the idea of a convertible..

I will be getting a circa 08-10 car and plan on keeping it about 5 years give or take.

Just wondering about the general craic with soft tops. Are they inclined to give trouble such as leaking or broken motor / mechanism.

Does anybody have a ballpark on fixing the above if they can be fixed? What would it set me back to replace the fabric if somebody ran a knife through it?

My aunt has an '08 Renault Coupe convertible (hard top)and it's leaks... last thing I want. I'm inclined to think there is a big difference in quality for Renault versus Audi but I could be very wrong.

If all is working as intended, would the soft top contribute to the car smelling damp inside. Somebody passed a comment about that before.

    Cheers guys, appreciate any feedback.
