Advice Outlander PHEV & EV in general

Currently driving an 09 Diesel A6, wife has a 131 BMW 318 diesel which she really doesnt like (rear wheel drive freaking her out)

I currently drive the A6 to work, to summarize my job i would be driving to my office at least 2 days a week and the odd week 3 times. The commute is a 200km round trip but my work place does have a number of charging points for EV's to be used free of charge. The other days may entail little or no driving, working from home but would also have the odd trip exceeding the 200km, say 4 or 5 a month.

Secondly my job which im in a year in means i end up driving up off road tracks and laneways, take something similar to a forest roadway and ive noticed the A6 within the last 6 months has been scraping along rutted paths etc, essentially a bit of ground clearance wouldnt go astray.

My wife would be happy to drive the A6, always preferred it, she literally has a 10km round trip to school and as such we would be selling the BMW.

Question is would the Outlander be a good option as an economical alternative?

I was looking at a possible 2015 model and is there any that come in 7 seats?

Also is there any other alternatives in regards to a EV with a bit of ride height?

Sorry for all the question but clueless in this EV department and its something ive though about for a while.

Also ive imported my last few cars from the UK so thats not an issue either

The Outlander PHEV comes in 5 seat only - something to do with the battery being under the anchor points where the last two tiny seats go in the ICE model.

At the minute the only reasonably priced, second hand 4x4 vehicle is the Outlander. The Hyundai Kona & Kia Niro are coming soon, see other threads on here.

Electric range of the Outlander PHEV is supposedly 32 miles (claimed by Mitsubishi) so in theory, if you charge it at both home and work you do 100 Km of your 200 Km commute is done in electric - That's a big fecking theoretical there!

(I'm researching it myself at the minute and just have more time because funds are low  I'd defer to anyone else with real experience...)

I got an Outlander PHEV in July and have been really enjoying it. It's very nice to drive. I tend to get up to about 45km on a full charge. The total range of the Outlander in my experience is about 570km, according to the guessometer. I've taken it on long trips several times and once the ICE kicks in, the fuel economy isn't great, but it's still better than 09 Grand Picasso I had before. I have a home charger and access to a charger at work, so my daily school run/commute is generally covered on the battery. This means I can go long periods of time without visiting a petrol station.

As jack says above, there's no 7-seat option, due to the battery, but the boot is a pretty good size and three kids fit in the back seat with no problems.

I've only had it since July, so haven't had the opportunity to try out the 4WD yet, but apparently we're in for a snow-filled winter, so there could be plenty of opportunity fairly soon.

But with a 200km round trip to your office, it sounds as if you'd be better off going with a full EV, rather than a hybrid, if that's a possibility...? Tesla Model X would do the job nicely, no? :D

    Tesla Model X!!!

    Jeez if only.

Its something im looking into, ideally its getting a vehicle with that extra bit of height clearance thats going to make sense from an economical point of view.

The idea of EV or Hybrid does appeal to me but maybe its a case of simply not suiting my needs.
