I am in my House almost a year the whole estate are using this heating sytem. To day two guys from the Company who are building more of the same houses nearby came to house it was my wife let them in and the said that because of a complaint by a neighbour in the House next to me though not adjoining that the fan on my outside wall that generates the air to activate the heating system causes her sleepless nights due to the noise the fan makes when it comes on at different times during the night . They suggested to limit the fan from coming between Midnight and early morning as a temporary measure. If i had been here I would hve said no thank you I bought this house in good faith believing I could regulate the heat as I saw fit. I am worried that this issue is going to get very messy if they cant come up with a solution . What if they come and say sorry its your problem and my neighbour takes legal action against me for noise pollution and sleep deprevation. Discuss

You should check if your heat pump has silent mode. If it has you could put on schedule to be activated during the night time. It should not affect your comfort too much if any at all.

Spoke to the Dakin people who install and service the unit they said under no circumstances should the Guys from the Builders have interfered with the settings the whole idea of the system is that it is on all the time and as the temp. rises or falls the system adjusts as I have underground heating it requires the system to be on constantly . Hopefully this is not going to get messy as there are three parties involved the Builder the Neighbour and Dakin Its crazy to expect us to have no heating between 11pm and 6 am especially as the cold nights are approaching

Well if your neighbour can prove Noise Nuisance Then it could get messy as you say

How Old is the House IF the Builders are involved I would put it on them to find a solution maybe Acoustic Insulation etc

Absolutely crazy - the builders & their design team have designed a solution that causes excessive noise to the neighbour - it's the builders problem to solve, not you to limit your consumption (as you say, these systems maintain a constant temperature in the thermal mass of the house, all the time).

I suggest you clarify to the builder that they are welcome to impove the acoustic insulation to your neighbour's dwelling, including any uprated glazing, as required until the problem resolves itself.
If they are going to try change out your external unit, be very cognisant of any impact on performance, efficiency, warranty & BER certificate as a result. The house would need to be re-commissioned, and BER cert re-issued to reflect changes to the heating system. Probably should get your solicitor to throw any eye over it to make sure they're not fundamentally changing what was sold to you - it may require a specialist engineers report also, which will be charged to the builder.

If all the houses have a air to water heat pump then would your neighbour heat pump not be on at the same time?

So if she/he is awake could it not be their own keeping them awake?

If the heat pump is causing excessive noise then the original builder should have checked the noise levels and made sure windows would cater for the noise. So if double glazed then it should be tripled glazed

It should be on 24x7. So you should not turn it down.

The Neighbour lives in the old part of the Estate, she has gas heating in her house btw her house is seperated from my house by my garden wall which is 3 metres from my gable and her house is a bit to the front of mine so its not even next to mine in that sense I spoke the builder again he said not to worry We will see

if she/he is complaining now they will always complain.....

The builder is pushing is down the long path till they leg it and its your problem.....

Why not knock into the neighbour and talk it out.....explain what it does....tell him.her they should be asking to get one installed themselves....
