Carers allowance and work hours

Quick question currently on carers allowance and have been offered part time work it’s a zero hour contract which suits me. I know I am allowed work 15 hours but I doubt I would get near that it’s only to cover the odd shift in a local shop..
I know I have to declare myself working and how many hours I am working with a payslip but I won’t have an idea how many hours as some weeks I won’t be working at all.
Rang SW office and she didn’t really have an answer for me just said to put in 15 hours but I won’t be working those hours.
Anyone any experience of this and should I just put down the 15 hours.

    Thanks

The DSP's Operational Guideline (LINK) states simply that "A Carer may, with the prior permission of the Department, engage in employment outside the home for up to 15 hours per week. The cared for person must be adequately cared for in the Carer's absence."

So why not simply use that form of words when asking the Department for permission? Bear in mind that so long as you don't exceed the 15 hour weekly limit they really couldn't care less how long you are working for each week!

Be sure to keep your payslips to show that your hours of work vary from week to week and that they have never exceeded 15 hours; they will come in useful if they investigate your claim or run a means test on you sometime down the line.
