before I get back to my plumber about the invoice I received, would it be ok to run it by ye to get some feedback first? It's the first time I used this company, he sent an employee to do the work

    Replace solar Cir-Pump & glycol €255.00
Install Leak sealer into heating system €90.00 (Tec7 Plumb 7 was used)
Replace pressure switch on water pump €90.00
    VAT €58.73

I was expecting 350-400 or so. Definitely wasn't expecting nearly €500 bill

(I'm not expecting trade guys to diss each other or anything, just want to see if this pricing is about right or not)

    thanks in advance

I had a plumber out this morning to my boiler, photocell faulty. Supply and fit €250 inclusive of vat, he took cash so €200 sorted it. Good deal for everyone.

Seeing as a photocell is about 15euro......

He had to call, he tuned up the boiler. Gave a printout. Have I been ripped off?

Great way to support the black market trade.

not only is this irrelevant to the OPs question, you’re bragging about how you helped a plumber evade paying taxes. Nice job.

And yes you have been. A photocell is about €15-20.

He suggested the two prices, my conscience is clear. I’m not bragging at all.

He mentioned the machine for tuning the boiler was expensive, something must buy that, plus van. I’m not defending the guy at all but you need to wake up and see some reality. Was it a horse and cart he was supposed to arrive in?

Well, a boiler Service is usually around 90ish. Did he tune it up or actually service it?
If it was me I’d have serviced and replaced the photocell free of charge for around 120incl vat

He replaced photocell, hovered it out, checked something with a gauge and the other emissions machine. He had to charge a call out fee, was there bones of an hour.
Dtp if you service a boiler for €90 what is the extra €30 for?

So you paid for his van I suppose? I think you’re the one who needs to wake up bud.

I'd have paid the vat. Why would I make him rich & starve the economy of much needed revenue.

    Very short sited imo

That’s if it’s immediately obvious that it’s the cell and extra time not taken up diagnosing the problem.

ah ffs, ask a simple question and it turns into a thread about kolpe, civic duty, vat, tax evasion, photocells, boilers, boiler servicing, interfering(!), van, business, the stupid economy!

back on my topic the lot of ye!

I didn't get a breakdown - op shows what the invoice shows.

can of the tec7 plumb7 is €30 (retail price - I'm sure the plumber doesn't pay that), plumber spent 15-20 mins releasing it into the system. €90 for that is taking the piss a bit, no?

the rest of it looks (just about) ok in fairness, but I haven't had a chance to check the pricing of the components

The tec7 doesn't magically appear in his van or waiting on the job for him. His labour cost to you is 8am when he leaves his house. The clock is ticking as he sits in bumper to bumper traffic & while he queues in the suppliers. Also 13.5 percent is vat

You were flahed and you know it.

Why do you need conformation from strangers?

he lives about 2 miles away. he had the tec7 in his van "from another job" - his words. the prices i've quoted are ex-vat

I was hoping to get the views of some plumbers or people who've had similar work done in order to form an opinion as to whether his pricing was fair or not.

I think it is a fair price.

Time for haggling is before work starts. Should have asked for a quote.

So a plumber charges you between 270 and 360 euro an hour to use what could be an out of date, useless tube of Tec 7 that he had in his van and you want to know if you are being overcharged?

That's a possible euro for every ten seconds work.
