Advice on how to approach current employer about another job opportunity

I've recently applied for a job that has better pay, pension & health care benefits.
There is a interview process where you have to go through two phases, but this requires that I travel overseas to their academy for 10days.
My problem is, there is no way my current employer would give me these 10days off as I've used up all my holidays for this year and I've had to take a few days off unpaid throughout the year for doctor appointments which I've emailed a copy of doctors letter to cover those days. Even at that it's not 100% whether I would even get the job after the tests.
Could I possibly loose my job at my current employer if I explained my situation to them and took the 10 days?

    Thanks in advance!

As long as you're there a year you cannot lose your job for saying you're interested in another job.

However they can and will most likely refuse you the 10 days off to try for another job.

    Never heard of a 10 day trial/interview process. Highly unusual... MI5? ;)

I'll be a year in January.

    Can't disclose I signed a NDA ;)

    Doubt it

Is it a cabin crew job or something?

Are you paid for these 10 days by the other crowd?
This is a very big ask. Who can give up 10 days of holiday leave or like you, no leave to go abroad for a job you may not get?!

Wouldn't imagine that the recruitment process for cabin crew involves an NDA...

I'm not sure any job application that requires an nda, requires a 10 day trial.

I suspect porkies or exaggeration ;)

That simplifies. Unless you're essential to the company you'll be let go. If you're essential to the company they will start the hiring process and let you go when they are installed.

Alternatively they may offer you the same T&Cs as the other role, but it'd be a risk.

It's a long shot, but us there any chance that your employer offers unpaid leave? You could always approach them and ask for unpaid leave, but the most likely answer is No.

On a separate note, be very careful if you've been asked to pay for the 10 day assessment.

She's already taken unpaid days as all AL allocation is gone.
She's also there less than 1 year so I can't see any employer being impressed being asked for 10 days of absence paid or unpaid.
OP, is this some kind of a pyramid scheme thing?
Seriously, what business or company would someone to travel over seas for 10 days in order that they might get a job with them.
