Hello, My partner has land in her family, and we are taking half an acre to build our own house. I was wondering are we going to be charged tax on the land? The land is in her brothers name, and not her parents. Any help in the matter would help me greatly.

You would have to pay stamp duty on the market value of the land and the brother might be liable for capital gains tax on the market value of the land vs the value at the time he acquired it. That's my best guess.
