Neighbour from hell

    Hi all,
My parents are currently being tormented by their neighbour. It started about 2 years ago after they got him to do some work in their house for them (he's a tradesman); he did a shoddy job and refused to fix the snags. He then started threatening them, shouting vile comments at them whenever they went outside the house, chased my mother with a stick, tried to goad our dog into biting him so he'd get him put down, leaving a radio blaring all day beside the kitchen window for days on end (my parents are retired), knocking the boundary wall into our property. Things got so bad my parents installed CCTV cameras for peace of mind but he would then climb up over the boundary wall (there's a 3-4 metre drop on his side) and move them. The guards have been useless; he loves when they call to him cuz he knows they haven't caught his face on the cameras so he says he wasn't home be without proof they won't do anything. The latest thing is he is sticking massive branches onto the boundary wall and has now shoved them over the wall into our property, blocking the cameras. He then climbed up the wall today and stood shining a flashlamp directly into the kitchen screaming obscenities at my family (the kitchen window faces his property but the boundary wall is in front of the window so we can't see into his property). Can anyone tell me if we can cut these branches? They are 100% in our property. What I thought was we could cut what is in our property but a solicitor told my parents we have to offer them back to the neighbour then - which is out of the question as at this stage he is so unhinged we don't know what he might do next.
    Thanks

Explore getting a protection order. consequences of breaching it can include jail, and burden of proof not as high as criminal standard

Reminds of a case in the papers a few years ago. These disputes rarely end well. I would move house, if it were an option. Doesn't matter who is right.

Go and speak to a solicitor to advise you and your parents of your options.

Sounds like it would require a sledgehammer approach.

Unfortunately, there isn't much further that can be said on the matter due to the forum rules, so I have to close this thread.
