Unable to give up passport - citizenship application

    Hi All
I'm going about applying for Irish citizenship via naturalisation. I've come across a bit of an issue, they want me to hand them my current (UK) passport for them to keep for up to 4 weeks. For me this is just not possible due to my work (pilot), the only solution I can see is to get 4 weeks off in a row and stay at home, which will have the schedulers in heaps of laughter if i were to ever request it.
I called the citizen's information service and they weren't able to offer any help. Has anyone else faced this situation before or got any advice?

    Thanks

you can get a second passport from the foreign office. There are no issues holding 2 UK passports at the same time. you could then give INIS one of them and keep the other for work.

I wasn't aware that was possible, i'll certainly look into it. I guess that's gonna involve its fair share of paperwork too though.

According to what i've just read you need to file the application with pictures and signatures from referees along with a short explanation of why you need the second passport. Is this incorrect?

The two most common reasons for having a second passport are to facilitate multiple visa applications where the passport can be out of hands for periods f time and to facilitate entry into certain countries. E.g. I have an Israeli entry stamp, I need a second passport to enter Saudi Arabia. Or I need to send off for a Russian visa and a China visa in rapid succession. Your occupation as a pilot might play very well into this narrative. I worked with plenty of people with additional UK passports; there wan’t generally a high hurdle to jump.

Hi. I'm in exactly the same situation as you, being airline crew too. I was looking at getting a second UK passport for this reason although after further research, it looks like they won't provide a passport for a once off event.

I wouldn't be able to surrender my passport for a considerable length of time. Did you have have further luck? I may give the naturalization service a call next week to see if there is any other way.
