I left the house for the evening to not have to answer the door and not pretend I'm not home. It's usually traveller children around here anyway and we all know now how we feel about THEM.

How many sweets should you give each child who calls?

I am giving them 3 or 4 little treat size ones so malteasers, crunchies etc. But might need to give them multipack bags at this stage or I will end up eating them!

    1 more! I am up to 6

Am I the only anti social person who pretends I am not home when kids knock?

We rarely have many call to the door anyway (none at all today) but we don't decorate the house and apparently that is an invitation for callers.

I’ve had 3 but not sure I want anymore, I’m feeling quite full.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,915 ✭✭✭cursai

I've had two but they told me they were sixteen.

  • Never have any, probably would just offer directions to the nearest supermarket if I had any callers anyway tbh

Yes, it is essential to start hating them when they are children. If we can alienate them and make them feel discriminated against at a young age it will stick with them for life. Stamp out any chance of them making something of their lives

They lost the chance to make something of themselves when their parents refused to educate them.

Did you have to turn this thread into another traveller debate?

    You brought up traveller children....

    Keep it on topic.

How many trick or treaters have you ate/killed tonight?
Or alternatively just given sweets to

I think you will find that you were the first to mention them on this thread.
I have no intention of getting into that debate.

I live in an apartment complex so thankfully none at all. I’m on the ground floor and have my own front door so one or 2 may come along but I reckon they won’t.

Only 7:49pm and it’s like Beirut circa 1987 out there!!

I pity those AHers living in Celtic Tiger era commuter town housing estates. It must be a nightmare in those places...

Over 80. Ended up having to put a sign up once the three year old went to bed because we had ran out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 940 ✭✭✭Salvation Tambourine

Had at least 40 I'd say. Didn't have much so asked them to take a couple of items each, some kids got an education that a couple means two! All very appreciative and pleasant kids, decent bunch in my estate.

None. I haven't answered the door.

The kids on our road are all grown up and chic and sophisticated now lol.

    So none here. YET!

But plenty of crackers and stuff going off in the park at the back.

When those kids were nippers I gave em lots and lots of stuff.

When I was a nipper it was monkey nuts and "help the Halloween Party", none of this trick or treating mullarkey either.

But I suppose nuts are out of the question now, allergies. Feck me if I am going to check every bit of sweet stuff for nuts or dairy now. Too old and cranky.

But I loved it back in the day. Nostalgic git that I am.

Sad to see the young ones being taught to celebrate a pagan festival.

None here. We live in the country. Some years we get a few, most years don’t. Have nothing in so fingers crossed no one will turn up.

Bah humbug....I came home late enough. Had no stuff in so hid out. Must have missed the smaller kids. Only had one knock so did not answer the door. Feel terrible now.

Yep that was me and my siblings. If there was any money around a hat would be found, and Mam was great at putting the ashes (from the day before mind) over our faces together with her fiery red lipstick. We thought we were the bees knees.

Simple times. I have no problem with things moving on either just to mention, lest I am categorised as a fossil!

3 groups, about 10 in total. Can't imagine I'll see many more. Will tuck into the treats for the news at 9!

The rule is or at least should be, if people don’t have Halloween decorations up them don’t call

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,217 ✭✭✭TheIrishGrover

I've had about 35 before I ran out of sweets (The last couple of years I had very few). As for what I give them? prepared little bags so there would be no fighting. In each was a mini pack of smarties, a mister chock of some sort, a mini haribo bag, 1 or 2 jellies depending on size and something from one of those old-school tubs like a refreshers bar or little pack of love-hearts or fizzy lolipop or something. Nothing but fizz, Hey, they're not my kids. I won't fave to peal them from the ceiling later :)

Oh, and one of those aldi burger sweets. They're f*cking heroin!

Hasn't started here yet but the door will be ringing non stop until about 8 or 9. We're talking 100+ kids. Multiple large bags of sweets are usually required but this year we are going out so will leave a bowl at the door and trust that one greedy fecker won't take the lot. Most houses are decorated, lots go all out with props, smoke machines, music, jumping out to scare you etc. Halloween in America is great fun.

    1 caller.

Definitely nothing to do with the lights being off, curtains closed and me hiding in the kitchen.

I had enough for about 100 callers. Ran out at 640 and stopped answering the door. Its rung about 15 times since and that's with the lights off and decor down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,088 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

    None.

I'm not long in so would have missed the younger kids anyway, but I have nothing for them anyway (or me for that matter :p) so it's all for the best.

I don't like decorating my house but do like giving the trick or treaters some sweets, what do I do?
