Timber/wood for bed

We got given a bed identical to the one in the link below but it is missing a length of wood. We have the cross slats but need to get a replacement for the longer wood. Any recommendations on type of wood to get or would any type be suitable ?

There are 2 45mm x 45mm slots at each end.

It sounds like you are missing the support timber for down the middle under the Slats.
You should be able to get a length of 44 mm x 44 mm in any good builders providers.
Alternatively a Sawmills will also be able to sort you out.
Or you could use a length of Steel Box section which would be really strong.

Any type of wood will do. Rough white deal 2x2 inch is what you should ask for.

It might be worth double checking that the height required is 45mm. It doesn’t have to be exact. To check place one of the cross timbers on edge and put it in position on the supports on each side of the bed at either the head or foot. Mark where it crosses over the slot. This should tell you the height of timber you need. Pick a cross timber that is straight on edge.

Go for the steel box section. Takes the creak out of the bed.
