    yes

you don't need to have sky sports to get BT (via Eir Sport package)

But you need an active Sky TV package
You don't need an active Sky package, but you do need a Sky box and a viewing card. This is what I have and pay €30 per month for it (up from €27 when I subscribed in August).

Eir will send you a viewing card if you need one (for free).

Some good news out of Setanta Towers...their UK free to air channel, FreeSports, is now available in Ireland on Sky channel #429. Only live Rugby this weekend is Italy v Georgia but they take one live Pro14 Match each round (admittedly most of their fixtures involve SA and Italian teams) plus recorded programmes including eir Sport’s Pro14 Hour.

I'm finding this "if you want to access X sports you need to have our particular brand of crappy broadband" policy really annoying.

Good news for viewers in the south. Not a bad channel considering it is free although HD would help.
