Can someone please advise if child maintenance payments can be paid direct to a child's bank account and not direct to the parent?

No, is the quickest answer to your question.

Child maintenance payments can not be paid into a child’s bank account and not directly to the other parent who will have applied to the Courts for a maintenance order for the child.

What do you think the child would be able to do with the money? Would they use it to buy their own shoes, clothes, school items, grocery shopping etc? Child maintenance is for the purpose of maintaining the child. You can always set up an account to pay into if you'd like to build up savings for them.

I assume it's not what the child's going to do with it but what the parent is or isn't doing with it.

Regardless, the maintenance is to be paid to the parent, who in turn pays the bills. The child has no input into paying the bills, and direct debits would not be allowed from a child's account. If the paying parents feels the money is not being spent on the child then they need to seek legal advice as to what they can do to make sure the child's needs are being met.

You're a great lad for pointing out the obvious eh

OP asked a simple question I'm sure your patronising drivel could be left out.

Well the OP seems unsure as to how maintenance works. It's not "money for the child". If they want to give money directly to the child they set that payment up separate to maintenance. Maintenance is needed to pay the bills. And bills can't be paid out of a child's account. So that's the reason that maintenance cannot be paid directly to a child's bank account. Simple question. Simple answer.
