Block on top of Reinforced Concrete Wall

I need to lay one to two rows of 4" block (on the flat) on top of an RC wall. Just wondering if I need to prepare the concrete in any way?
It's not a completely smooth surfaces but it's not that rough either. I'm just concerned that the block won't stick to the wall.

Talking about approx. 4m of wall so I could key it in some way but want to avoid the mess and labor f that if possible.

Should be fine as is but wouldn't take long to rough it up with an angle grinder.

OK. I've a consaw and will use it if necessary, but just thinking now it might be easier to use something heavy with a sharp point to dimple the top of the wall instead. With a saw I'm only going to be cutting clean lines. Would need to make a few passes with the saw to get a decent key.

The mortar will stick, but if you want to roughen the concrete then use the consaw you have and just cut x’s on the surface about 5mm deep. Just don’t go to the edge of the wall, keep at least 50mm away from both edges.
The correct way to key concrete is to use a scabbler, you can rent a small hand held one if you want to. But it’s effectiveness depends on the strength of the concrete, fully cured concrete can be too much for the small scabblers.

This is a job on a budget so I'll avoid renting a scabbler. Am now considering shuttering the wall and pouring some more concrete on top but will still key the wall regardless of the approach.
