Due to inherit a farm that I've no interest in. What are my options in terms of growi

I'm due to inherit the family farm in about 10 years and I am the only one in line to get it. I have never had any interest in farming it in its current form (beef, formerly dairy/beef) but as it's been in the family for generations I hate the thought of it not staying in family ownership).

With this in mind I'd like to take it in a new direction. I like the thought of planting it with biofuel crops as I see this as being low maintenence, good for the environment and an alternative source of income come harvest time.

Farm is on the west coast with over 100 acres, about half/2 thirds of this is currently used for silage annually. The rest of unsuitable - rugged or bog.

Issue is I've no idea what I'm talking about, right now this is a pipe dream. Where can I look/who can I talk to to investigate the feasibility.

If biofuels aren't suitable, what other options do I have, other than renting it out, I'm not particularly in favour of this even though I can't really explain why, just a stance I have.

Forestry is the obvious other. Least for the crap bits

Just lease it out, ownership stays with family and you can likely get some income from it.

Renewables might not leave a lot of money, especially if you are paying someone else to do the work.

Has the interest in bio energy crops waned, I haven't seen any new crops of willow or miscantus planted for a few years .

No siblings, and even if there was I'd still have over 100 acres after giving me sites

How about giving some land to the eithnic travellers who are looking for a half acre per houshold for/caravan for there horses??? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😎😂😂😎

On a serious note, the most straight forward way to keep the land, and keep it in good order is prob to rent it out to a good local farmer who would upkeep the fencing put back what his farming activities take out of the land etc, if you go into a min 5 year lease it's tax free. So you could possibly get 100e an acre across the good and bad, that 10,000 a year, tax free

In time to come if you decide to go farming in what ever form you want the land will always be there, or if you have kids that want to give it a go it will always be there for them.

Planting trees means your reducing what else you can do with the land, plus it limits it value for rent or sale, just keep that in mind.

id consider it for the poorer parts of the farm €210 to €275 per acres as opposed to €100 and its tax free and if you have single farm payment you can still claim it on these areas

10 years is a long time.

OP could be long dead and decayed by the time it’s changing hands.
Current owner could change and give it to a neighbor, cousin, or anyone.
