I love the week with a slate of 5pm games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,352 ✭✭✭conor222

I am 63-44 coming into the week. Pick and some reasoning below :)

    Texans
Take the home team in a Thursday night, Texans offence looking a bit better, OL still a mess. Dolphins have no WRs alive, having to activate a player who is currently calling the coach an idiot for having him inactive and looking for a trade. Not a great recipe for an away game on a short rest!

    Eagles @ Jags
Eagles looking shaky, Jags looking shaky. Both teams are looking to show that they are better than their last couple of games. Both defense and offence for the Jags have been poor since the Chiefs game and until that turns around, I'll pick against them.

    Ravens @ Panthers
I liked what the Panthers did a the end of the game last week but you cannot forget how to play football for 3/4 of a game of football and expect to win many games. The Ravens defense looks legit, their offence left some question marks in that game against the Saints. Would like to see a more consistent running game if they hope to use tough defense and control to win games. Ravens the edge it with some mistakes forced by their defense.

    Jets @ Bears
Bears look like the more dangerous team here, Darnold is fun for the Jets and something they can build on but this is a Bears team that were a yard away from tying with the Pats (and that was after Mitch missed a lot of throws during the game!). fun to watch I think but Bears winning comfortably

    Bucs @ Bengals
Bengals got dismantled on SNF but Prime time Dalton is not representative of this team as a whole. expect a bounce back game with a hearty dose of Joe Mixon given the Qwon Alexander injury. Bucs have some explosiveness on Offence but a porous D and just a sense of inconsistency that I cant shake. Bengals by 2 scores.

    Seahawks @ Lions

Seahawks defense has been performing well of late, Lions have a poor run defense and that seems to be how the Seahawks want to run their offence this year. Coming off a bye as well they should be well rested.
I have no idea what to make of the Lions this year. Getting production on the ground, a nice well rounded receiving core, some nice wins but for some reason I can;t see them in the playoffs. Maybe its through lack of exposure but I'm taking the Seahawks here in a closer game.

    Broncos @ Chiefs
Chiefs offence is lights out at the moment and the defence looked significantly improved with Dorian O'Daniel coming in at LB. The split between the D at home adn on the road is remarkable (but could be a factor of opponent). That being said, the Broncos front 7 caused problems for the Chiefs in their last meeting and coming off a win, could they be fired up for the fight? I don't think so, Chiefs by more than two scores.

    Redskins @ Giants
Washington can get it done, albeit not in the flashiest of ways, by running the offence through Peterson and letting Alex Smith play an efficient game. Giants are in disarray, some nice pieces but no concept of what their identity should be. NYG woes continue as the Redskins extend their lead in the NFCE.

    Browns @ Steelers
Id love for the browns to win this but I can;t see it happening. Steelers offence is looking good, the browns have a strong defense but even with the best turnover differential in the league I believe they have the lowest points off turnovers. I think the Browns are competitive for the first half of this game (if the defense steps up) and then they fall apart in the second half. My hope would be that a loss here is the final nail in Hue's coffin and the Browns are free of his coaching soon.

    Colts @ Raiders
Two teams that are going no-where this year. Andrew Luck will continue to throw lots of TDs and put this team on his back. The Raisers now without their top WR are just looking to get to the end of the season, regardless of record. Not a game worth watching, Colts by a fair chunk.

    49ers @ Cardinals

Hard one to call, both teams have been under performing. One due to injuries and one due to coaching. You cant fire injuries but you can fire coaches and that's what I'm going Cardinals. They beat the 49ers already on the road, they have skill players (Johnson, Fitz etc) and hopefully a new scheme can revitalize this group. The 49ers will want to win this in division game however and expect to see a lot of Kittle. Could go either way, siding with the team that'll have no tape on their new offence to win a poor game.

    Packers @ Rams
Great game, looking forward to this one. Rodgers should be able to show where to attack this Rams team and help to push them. However, the lack of a running game and inconsistency in the defense makes it hard to see them victorious on the road over the Rams. Pick your poison offence with stars at 2/3 levels of the defense make this a tough match up for anyone. That said, I think Rodgers can keep them in the game with some of his weird 4th quarter voodoo magic (provided the DL dont break him before then). Rams win but don't pull away until the end.

    Saints @ Vikings

Saints showed what they can do against a good defense last week at the Ravens. Their Offence is balanced, they are a threat all over the field and their defense, while not top tier, is showing enough to get it don't. This Minnesota team, while good, are not quite hitting the level they were last year. Maybe the return of Cook can provide that spark. We saw last week Vikings have the ability to make explosive plays and Cousins is looking good, expect a fairly high scoring game that gets cagier as the game progresses, leaving it close and defensive in the 4th quarter.

    Patriots @ Bills

Sorry to any bills fans but this is essentially a bye week for the Pats. Patriots by a boatload.

These are the pick of the games for me this week.

Eagles @ Jags - Everyone expected to see these 2 back in the playoffs this year - this game will go a long way in determining if they can make it. Jags look especially bad though, think they are a team in turmoil and we know the Eagles are far better than they have shown so far.

Ravens @ Panthers - Ravens have really impressed recently. When Denver lost to them I thought it was an opportunity missed. Now with the benfit of hindsight, I think they they did quite well! I can see th ePanthers struggling against their top rated pass D.

Seahawks @ Lions - Important game in the battle for the NFC wildcard, which is all either of these teams can hope for really. I like the Lions this year, their best seems much better than the Seahawks best at the moment.

Broncos @ Chiefs - Not necessarily going to be competitive, but I put this game in because if Denver lose, any chance of winning the west is gone, and the Chiefs are really fun to watch.

Packers @ Rams - A marquee matchup, but i think the Packers are worse than their record suggests, and think the Rams will get an easy win here. They are built to pressure the QB and I think they'll get to Rodgers too often for them to keep pace with the Rams offense.

Saints @ Vikings - another great NFC matchup - I'm sure both these teams will see the playoffs, should be a shootout between Brees and Cousins, think the Vikings will shade it though.

Just an interesting, if unimportant, stat: Aaron Rodgers has never lost to the Rams or the Patriots, and he will (or should) be playing them in consecutive weeks.

It's going to be a 4 man booth for the London game on Sunday - Eisen, Irwin, Warner and Mariucci calling the game. Looks like my TV's going to be on mute.

    What was that about?

    What was that about?

Possibly calling an illegal formation penalty when the Texans were taking a knee for half time. Good game in the end Miami paid big for taking an onside kick after making it 28-20 at the end of the 3rd. Texans o line is starting to click and Watson is benefiting big from it

Texans are now 5-3 having been 0-3. With the Jaguars falling apart the Texans must surely be favourites to win the division.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,698 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Both lane Johnson and Jason peters questionable to return. Jason peters should call it a day after this season. He's been a great player for the eagles but there comes a time to retire for every player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,698 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

17-12 after the third quarter to the eagles. The eagles need to not repeat last week when they gave up 17 points.

Looks good for the eagles to get the win.

There's something ominous about this Panthers team. They look primed for a playoff run in my opinion.
