Thermal looping in "full fill" cavity walls

Stolen from a thread about closing cavities on Facebook, and starting this thread just cos I'm curious.

Isn't that yawning gap either side of the insulation a bit of an issue? Or is the idea that you can close it off tight at the top to prevent thermal looping?

that looks like 100mm partial fill insulation in 100mm cavity

the gaps on both sides of the insulation will be the least of their worries.

    Party wall construction?
What’s happening with the block work on the right side? Looks to be piers in places but nothing tiring it together?

Oh yeah, I missed the fact that it was a party wall.

The use of a wiggly bit of mortar to "straighten" the line of a pitched block wall, is that normal too?

I find looking at pictures of houses being built fascinating. I should get out more. :pac:

It looks like it might be a separating wall with an attached garage

What the heck does that mean?

It looks like 100mm Partial fill insulation in a 100mm cavity.... With no residual cavity retained.

The stack of blocks in the external wall to the right of the division is a bit worrying

Do you mean an air gap or something entirely different.

I mean that it appears the product is being used in a manner its not certified for.... But I can't be certain as I don't know the context.

Yeah, sorry about that. Not the most useful start to a thread.

Any chance of a link to picture of its correct use and installation.

Perhaps I'm the only one but I'm always interested in hearing the right way to do things, by someone with experience of it.
