Makes perfect sense to me :D

I haven't tried him Xcool but he's only had 3 calves registered to him on ICBF so doesn't look like many people would have experience with him yet.

Maybe to you but can you enlighten the rest of us? What is the OP referring to?

[progressive charolais bull indiscret pp ch 2222 hetero polled how has calves turned out]

progressive- Progressive Genetics, AI station that has bulls.
    charolais bull- Speaks for itself.
    indiscret- name of bull.
pp- used after a bulls name standing in AI to indicate he's a polled bull.
ch2222- AI code, shorthand for his name so to speak.
hetero polled- means none of his calves will have horns.

I always thought that homozygous polled meant that none of the offspring would have horns and heterozygous polled meant that that some would have horns and some wouldn't

You're correct. But sure anyone who couldn't read the first post wouldn't have known that & I wasn't about to start explaining genetics & alleles :D:D

Be very interested to see how this bull goes. Bit of rude behaviour there the op was clear.

Is there a farmer in Wexford who advertises polled Charolais

I'm not a fan of polled cattle bar a good type Angus. Have had a few here over the years and they don't die great. They're very fine in the bone.
Vet was telling me it's connected to the polled gene.

Lol I suppose for those not in the know - the language can be a bit confusing. Funny was reading the genetics of Irish Moiled cattle the other day

    http://www.irishmoiledcattlesociety.com/horns-and-scurs.html

Between Moiled Polled and Scurs you could be excused for talking a different language.... :D

Alwent Hitman was the first AI Homozygous in Ireland. The bull looks ok, nothing special, not the best not the worst. I liked the idea of not having to debud the calves as I find this an ordeal for the calf, cow and farmer.
Feck all stock bulls from him on the ground, I was on the look out for one last spring and couldn't get one. I think a the Charolais breeders are missing a trick by not supplying a few of these Bulls to the sales

Sorry for straying off topic - where do you see on ICBF how many calves he has registered to him?

Thanks, never knew that info existed. BTW, without looking like a novice, what do they mean by Herd Mates Births?

Look up a bull, any auld bull will do. Then click on calving difficulty, then if you scroll down a bit you'll see 'No of births'
