Nissan main dealer being vague regarding issue with one year old car

Hi , I have a 171 X Trail ... purchased in main dealer in Belfast last June ..
recently noticed that the floor of the car is holding water, enough water to hear it splashing about when breaking and turning !!

My local Nissan dealer in Dublin said they will take it in to be stripped down but because the memo received from Nissan Ireland is vague , they don’t know if it’s under warranty or not !
Is this normal practice ? I’m leaving my car in and don’t know if it’s under warranty or not ! I’m fairly sure I received a one year warranty from the dealer up north but I’d rather not go back up there to get it sorted. I’d have thought that Nissan Ireland would cover any issues .. does anyone have any experience of this ?

Sounds like your Nissan dealer needs to do their homework a bit.

For the first 2 years of the cars life, it's warranty is applicable anywhere in the EU. It's only after that that things get messy and may not be covered etc. Your car being 171, less than 2 years old it should be a cut and dry case.

They may have to get authorisation from Nissan U.K. to do the work?

Did you buy the car brand new?

No 2nd hand .. it just feels odd that they are happy to bring the car in and be stripped etc but can’t tell me if it’s covered by warrenty or not ... it’s like them giving me a big bill for work carried out without ringing me beforehand to make sure I’m happy for them to go ahead to do the work !

There’s always the possibility that the leak could have been caused by an accident (god forbid) and thus not covered.

    Good point.
So the car is less that 2 years old so is covered by warranty unless its user damage. If it was mine, I would only authorise a visual inspection to confirm that there is not damage to the car then get confirmation that its all warranty repair.

I had it in with them last week and 3 guys looked at it for about half an hour. They all agreed that it looks like a warranty repair , they were puzzled by it but none of them could tell me it was 100% warrenty until it was completely stripped down .

They couldn't tell you because they need to check to see if it was damaged in a crash (hopefully not) or if it was a manufacturing defect.

Are you sure the slushing sound you're hearing is water and not just the fuel in the tank?

Definitely water as when I left the mats on passenger side you can see the water , there are a few YouTube videos saying that there can be a problem with the glass roof and water has been known to get in via a faulty seal there.
Just have to wait and see I suppose
