I am in the process of accepting a job as a receptionist within the civil service. I was wondering if anyone knows what does the medical exam entail? I smoke weed 2 to 3 times per week and am wondering if they do a drug screening. Thanks!

You sure it’s the Civil Service? There are no receptionist roles there. Is it not more likely to be a HSE or other public service role?

I don’t think any Civil Service role drug tests. Departments would be required to have drug testing policies and I’m almost certain that they don’t.

If ye smoke weed 2 or 3 times a week you'll fit in grand.

It is a reception role for a particular department, I would prefer not to say which but it would be like the Department of Tourism or something like that. I have received my application to be Garda vetted & on the letter it states "once security clearance has been received, further correspondence shall issue regarding your medical clearance."

I think you just sign a declaration stating that you're healthy and fit to work at the time of taking up employment. Did they specifically mention a drug test? First I've heard of that craic.

It's just a form you've to fill in declaring any chronic/longterm illness as far as I'm aware. It was for me anyways.

    Keep it green.

No they haven't, but I don't think they would though? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having one?

As far as I'm aware, they do have to mention if a drug test will be carried out as they have to take saliva, blood, urine etc., which is a bit intrusive when thrown on you without warning.

You're safe by the looks of it, it's just the same standard declaration that all civil servants sign and nothing more.
