Shock absorber reconditioning?

Is there anywhere in Ireland that does shock reconditioning? The rears on my 2003 Audi Allroad failed the NCT last year due to being uneven.

There are Chinese aftermarkets available which I've installed and they're fine, but I'm not expecting them to last much longer.

Audi want over €800 for a new pair.

Are they not available from anywhere else other than China or Audi????

Pretty sure shocks are sealed units, never heard of reconditioned ones.

Some are but only if designed to be reconditioned. GAZ coilovers for example.

Have you checked companies like Bilstein, Monroe etc. See if they do any compatible shocks?

Funny, same thing happened my mates Black Edition A3 with adjustable dampers. NCT inbalance required new shocks, he just got the notably worse one replaced with an OEM strut as there are no aftermarket alternatives, was €400 for just one side. Passed the NCT on retest.

The Allroad has air suspension so is a specific design. Some sites like mister-auto list a shock for the Allroad, but it's incorrect as it's for a car with coil springs. The allroad has air springs and no coils. The shock also has a piston that connects to the air sping which gives additional damping when carrying heavy loads.

    These are the Chinese ones:

Saw an eposide of Wheeler Dealers that they had shocks for a car reconditioned as the OEM replacements were very expensive or unavailable. I suppose I could contact a couple of UK based companies and see what's possible.

Otherwise I may have to stick with Chinese. The car is 2003 with 260k miles so just isn't worth spending big money for OEM parts that are way overpriced for what they are.

Yep, don't do them as they are specific to the model so not enough volume to justify them producing one.
