In general terms what kind of income would you have to (or not) have to qualify for a full medical card ?

The person I am trying to help on this is 60, has run in to a serious medical problem, has virtually no savings and is operating on an effective zero hours contract.

Does it take long to process a medical card application - assuming you present all the correct information with the application ?

They have to see evidence of income and savings etc and if your paying rent/mortgage then you need to have evidence of it and house insurance if you have that.
All those things and the properly completed form signed and stamped by the GP and signed and dated by the applicant should get you a medical card in about 4 weeks
