Radio predictions for 2019

I think it's fair to say that apart from Gareth O Callaghans retirement, absolutely nothing much happened in Irish radio this year but I believe a few big noteworthy things will happen next year. Ian Dempsey to leave Today FM. Larry Gogan to retire on 2fms 40th birthday. Eoin McDermott to replace Nicky Byrne show and Jenny Greene goes solo on Drive. Classic hits 4fm to get new investors and pouch Ian Dempsey for Breakfast.

Nova,or Classic Hits to go nationwide on FM maybe! Or at least a new nationwide FM station for 2019!

Why the hell would they poach a boring presenter like Ian Dempsey??
You do know PJ and Jim have just won best breakfast show for the 2nd year in a row?

Also, your posts are suspiciously similar to another poster on here, re reg?

    ?
Because they don't have any meaningful listenership (like every show on CH4fm)according to the jnlrs. The station could badly do with raising it's profile with a big name signing. LOL @ winning best breakfast show two years in a row, everyone is a winner in the ppi awards or whatever there called now.

I admire you trying to get something new in the forum, and a predictions thread can be fun, I don't think what you said about the changes is accurate really. There are always changes in radio stations, there are constantly new presenters emerging around the country it's just that you might be based in Dublin, or only listen to the nationals you don't notice them. I travel to and from Ireland a bit, and regularly commute from Dublin to Galway or Limerick too, you hear a lot of other voices on their stations.

Anyway, as said before, I don't really think 4FM will move their breakfast show on, as said before here the station is in a tough financial position, or at least it was a few years ago, from what I gather it's a small operations, breakfast are the big hitters, Nikki Hayes is recorded elsewhere? Or is pre recorded? If they got investors maybe, but who would buy it? Maybe Dempsey coming would massively boost revenue, but highly unlikely he would leave for 4FM, considering his work hours there and his pay is fairly decent too I would assume.

Not sure why 2fm would mess with the schedule, it's working now, unless McDermott had other commitments and couldn't do drive, but that's unlikely, they seem to accommodate him quite well.

I wouldn't predict much myself in terms of change next year, the industry seems too fragilie for that, any change will be out of necessity. Like Al Porter and Geroge Hook incidents. New Zoo Crew starts on Spin 1038, may be some changes to the weekend there. Other stations like 98fm and FM 104 have very settled schedules. Maybe Nova will continue its transition to more mainstream rock, questions over the breakfast show there which also changed this year, will that survive into next year?

Would like to see the BAI ask some questions of some broadcaster's like Nova, Sunshine and 4FM who you could argue have strayed from their original license agreements. Sunshine is basically a bunch of computers now, poor from. The BAI to allow that to happen, especially when the station is showing promise and increase in numbers.

Joe Duffy to ask a caller if they’ve paid their TV license fee before allowing them on the air to whinge

My prediction about 2fm was based on the fact that Nicky Byrne is apparently leaving for a westlife reunion

    Says who?

The Westlife tour lasts 5 weeks. Throw in a few weeks either side, he hardly needs to leave. Jenny will be fine on her own for a few months.
He presented Dancing with the Stars and didn't need to leave.

Matt and Mollie to take over BBC R1 drivetime, with Grimmy being swapped yet AGAIN. Or maybe Grimmy will move to a commercial station.

A 98FM DJ moves to Today FM. Maybe Cooper and Luke?

2FM launches a mostly talk show between the hours of noon and 2pm. Maybe Lauren Kelly poached from SPIN?

Laura Whitmore's Sunday Session returns to 5Live for a 2nd year running.

    A SPIN 1038 DJ moves to 98FM.

Matt and Mollie are taking over dev and allice next month

Matt Edmondson and Mollie King are taking over the BBC Radio 1 weekend breakfast show, swapping with Dev Griffin and Alice Levine.

Dev and Alice will move to the weekend (Friday to Sunday) afternoon slot from Friday 16th November.

Maybe Jordan North will take over drivetime next year? Or someone from MTV like Becca Dudley?

Muireann O'Connell takes over George Hook's slot on Newstalk. Doireann Garrihy replaces her on Today FM.

Eoghan McDermott gets a UK radio show.

Yep with a bit of luck! From what I’ve heard they certainly can’t afford them.

Al Porter to yet again try to make a comeback.
Larry Gogan retires (we'll get it right some year)
No changes to the daytime line-ups on RTE1, 2FM, Today FM or Newstalk.

If that's your prediction then so be it, but I think there will be changes to the daytime lineup on at least one of those stations.

Nick Grimshaw to replace Rickie, Melvin and Charlie on Kiss Breakfast.
Louise Duffy to be reinstated somewhere between Ian and Matt on Today FM. Declan Pierce to take over Lost in Music.

replacements have already been announced for kiss breakfast so this won't be happening.

Say the same about any presenter over 60 perhaps ??

Larry's over 80, becoming increasingly frail and less often on air. I'm not wishing the man into a wooden box, by the way. Just bring realistic.

His voice is as good as ever ..I think that's what matters now to his fans out there young and old..

Didn't see that. Well either way, I still think he is on the way out of Radio 1, what with him being relegated from the breakfast show.

In fairness the classic golden hour is one of the very few things worth listening to on the station these days and he doesn't half come off as bad as some other particular presenters his age or younger and his taste in music is very similar to my own and many others who are decades younger an absolute legend of a broadcaster and show.

I'd imagine all his stuff on RTE Gold will be Voice tracked. The indo has reported that the just a minute quiz won't be going with him to Gold
