8th gen Civic headlight bulb replacement

Have to replace the dipped bulb on the passenger side of my Civic, but access is basically non-existent. Moved the battery as advised in the manual, but there's also a duct (should be removable, but looks fixed in place) blocking the way. I could try to yank it, but who knows what will happen then...

Considering just swallowing my pride and giving it to the garage to replace. Has anyone here successfully DIY'd one of these bulbs - am I missing something?

    Is it diesel or petrol?

1.8 petrol. Apparently worse than the diesel for this.

I’ve done mine loads and haven’t needed to remove a pipe. It’s tight enough but not impossible. Are you sure you’re looking at the right place?

The only thing I can think of that might be in the way is one of the cables running from the battery, you can detach that easily enough.

Positive I'm looking at the right place. The screw-off cap for the bulb is blocked by an air duct. The duct cover pops off as per the manual, but the duct itself looks fixed. I've moved the battery cable without any problems.

Might try to get a photo of it.

There’s only really room to pop the cap off and slide it out to the side IIRC.

Just had a look there, there’s no pipe there that’s really in the way. There is a pipe alright but you can still get the cap off without going near it.

Thanks a lot Colm, that's exactly the spot I'm looking at. I'll try unscrewing the cap and see how I get on.

Yeah it’ll be a bit tight but there’s a knack to it. Note that the top is marked on the cap, it only goes on one way. Practice on the high beam one first.

To close this out, managed to change the bulb without injury and with only the minimum of swearing. Bulb cap screwed off without having to remove anything for access, was straightforward then to swap the bulb.

Thanks for the advise Colm, just hoping I don't have to do an indicator in future...

The indicator is an engine-out job!
