    Hi All,

Our 08 Opel Astra had a strange ticking noise coming from the a couple of weeks ago.
Brought ti to garage who said timing chain needed to be replaced, so went ahead and did that (€600).
Car was driving fine, then a week later, my wife was driving it and the oil light came on and engine cut out. Didn't drive it any further and got same garage to come collect it.
They're saying the oil pump went and damaged the crank shaft and basically engine is gone.
From what he showed me, it's the same area as the timing chain they replaced a week earlier.
Is it that too much of a coincidence to be bad luck!?
    Thanks for any advice

Very common problem on that model Astra unfortunately, worth googling.

That engine is knowing for oil pump failure. If they where experienced the should of advised you to change the oil pump at the time of doing the chain. Then again the job would of being closer to 1500 2000 but now ur looking at a new engine or second hand that the pump will have to be done on anyway
