As you can see from the photo the chrome plating is starting to peel of the handbrake lever button. I'm wondering is there a smart (and cheap) way to repair it without replacing it? It's not only about the looks - the peeling edge is quite sharp and doesn't feel nice on my thumb

You could sand it down and spray with chrome spraypaint.

Try a dealer to see if it’s available. I know some manufacturers actually sell the button on its own.
