My guess is 50k ish maybe more.

Interesting thing is that not all Seat dealers will have ability to sell these. And am I understanding this right? Theu want to have 7 more cupra models before 2020?! That is freaking a lot in such short time.

I don't see the point in a petrol 300bhp SUV, same with the superb petrol 280.

To me the superb for example would be a great long distance comfortable car but would drink petrol whereas the diesel makes perfect sense in it.
SUV with the R engine, good in a straight line but even worse economy, again the Tiguan 240tdi would be a better option.

Agree with above those crossovers are not bought by people interested in 0 to 60 times usually families who want economy and low tax so a high performance version is a bit pointless and if it is available here will be seriously expensive

Trendy crossover hot hatch type substitute for those who have had parenthood/mid or late life thrown upon them to remoniss about their youth imo. This now and the Kodiaq vRS :)

You can drive one to the blast of this tune :D

Wow. I though the SQ2 was supposed to start at £35k not the Seat!

Funnily enough that was the song used in the ad for the Zafira OPC back in the day!

I rest my case, your honour.

Is the 2.0litre petrol with 190bhp even sold in Ireland? I would be surprised if Seat brought the Ateca Cupra to Ireland, the market for them here is probably tiny

So a high performance car is solely for 0-60 times?
    News to me :pac:

I understand wanting something with a bit of poke but it doesn't seem right to start with something that is heavier by design and just throwing an engine from a hot hatch into it.

So you think it is just a regular Ateca with a 300bhp engine "thrown" in?
    Sounds about right. :)

I think it will be a sportier Ateca with the usual VAG sporty suspension, driving modes, grippy tyres etc but the power to weight ratio will be lower and considering this is a new performance brand they probably should have done more.

You can be certain it will be more than a case of "Sporty Suspension"
    Sure my mondeo has that
You think Cupra are going to slap in a set of shorter springs and stiffer dampers?

They put the engine from a hatchback into an SUV and for £35k I'd be surprised if it wasn't the cookie cutter go fast bits that's on the Cupra Leon, GTI, VRS etc.

You're suggesting it's more than what I think it is which may be true but other car manufacturers have done the whole "inspired by our race car team".

Personally I don't care and if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. If someone wants an SUV for the track then by all means go get one but if I wanted a performance car I wouldn't buy an SUV that's slower than every other 4WD performance VAG. They should have put in the 3 litre 345hp engine that's in the Q5.

Also they like tooting their own horn, their website seems to think they're the first performance SUV!

    Just curious
How often do you trash your car around a track?
You do know it is not the main reason people buy cars.?

I'm not debating the existence of performance road cars. You were suggesting they're going to do more than just add sporty VAG bits to it. All I'm saying is that considering it's a performance orientated sub-brand they could have put more power into it especially to make up for the extra weight. I think the fact that the Q5S has a more powerful engine takes away from their new Cupra brand.

    Hang on.
Didn't you mention about taking it to a track?
    Not me.

I simply asked how often you take your car and trash it round a track?
    Just being curious.

And now you are comparing a circa 55k car to an 85k car.
    That doesn't make sense.

Completely pointless IMO, esp that the cupra comes in the leon estate in 4x4. If they had that engine in a hybrid they would corner the market.

    Different strokes for different folks.
Most of these mid range suv's are grossly underpowered anyhow.
I don't see the problem bringing out something with a decent enugh power output.

Its a sure sign of an impending recession when a manufacturer starts putting out these types of cars.

It's kind of cool but a bit pointless really. If you want a bit of poke and need space without sacrificing driving dynamics then a hot estate would make more sense. Having said that it'll probably handle surprisingly well on account of Seat having a good reputation for sporty handling and the AWD system.

    The thing is,
If everyone bought the same car in the same color, the roads would be pretty boring.
As they say, Variety is the spice of life :D

No, not just engine, but whole setup. Making a very fast suv, needs proper design to counter body roll for example. At 51k you get a lot of spec, that's of course if the car in that ad is the one with price tag.
51k is a lot of money, but we can blame government taxes for that. All higher performance cars like this get hammered to hell.
For example Bog standard Polo GTI is 35k on the road. It's a bit mad if you ask me.

    It's up on Seat website.

    50k

Looks well and I'm sure it shifts. Standard ateca much better thru bends than most crossovers.

    Still rather the Leon
