Retofit roof vents

I recently got external insulation on my '50s bungalow with non-breathable roofing felt which reduced the soffit ventilation area. To compensate, the external insulation company fitted roof vents, two opposite each other at either end of the attic space.

I now have one, possibly two issues but would like opinions from those who are more familiar with this area.

The felt was cut for the vents but not lapped around the vent afterwards - presumably this should be done? Its just hanging loose on all four side. My guess is that the roofer did all his work from the outside.

Last night, during the storm, it seemed to me that the roof was flexing at one stage and I was wondering if the new vents had increased the risk of wind damage. I'm not sure how much the characteristics of the attic ventilation would have changed with reduced soffit ventilation and added roof vents. Other houses that I've seen with roof vents have them in rows along the roof rather than at either end of the attic space. It may well have been my imagination but still...

hard to follow where the roof vents are when you say at either end of the attic space?
    Is it a hip roof?

    Hi,

Apologies - I didn't describe it very well.

Its a gable roof and there are four vents, two on each side at either end near the gable wall

The roof vents should not require the cutting or alteration of any roof joists so I don’t think these would have any effect on the structure of the roof or the perceived flexing you are experiencing.

Thanks - yes, no timbers were cut. I thought that they might be directing airflow in such a way as to lift the roof a bit but it was probably my imagination - things always sound worse in the middle of the night.

Should the felt have been lapped around the new vents?

How do you hear a roof flex?
