    Hi guys ,
Need some advice,so i got offered a position in a care home as a domestic staff start 2 weeks.
The job entails me doing a bit of everything (not caring)around the home.

Its a new home with the chance of training and moving up the ladder especially as ill be one of the first staff members in there.

Down side is poor money 9.50hr and weekend work and some late nights also never worked in a home before so job may not suit me.

Then today i got offered another job start next Wednesday working in the finish dept in a printing co for 12.50 an hour.

Hours are handy 8 till 4 and weekends off .
Down side im not pushed in doing that type of work again as iv done it for years and not sure i want to go back again and no potential for training or promotion, bit of a dead end boring job i could grow to hate.

So there lies my problem which job do i take?Im 50 this year and jobs are hard to come by so its a big decision for me,

Any opinions or advice would be most welcome thanks.

Job B. How far up the ladder and in what direction could you really go as a domestic? Might take you a few years even to reach the starting wage of the printing job tbh.

    Id say job A.
Tbh you dont sound anyway interested in the second job. There is progression in job A. You could become team leader, supervisor even move into maintenance if you were handy with your hands.
You may get more hours so more pay. Good luck in deciding.

Care work is also a bit of a dead end job.

    It's also exhausting.

    Can be rewarding though.

Personally I would take option B.

It's an extra 6k or thereabouts per year. I'd use that money to improve my education and skills. Basically have a stress free job for a few years while I get myself on the path of what I really want to do, e.g. IT, psychology, law, etc.

They said they train staff in for positions tbh im split down the middle in deciding.
I feel as its a new home (only opens in a week or two)there is potential for me as im one of the first in.

But as i said the down side is poor money and weekend work, its typical really iv been looking for work for months now and no joy and now i get two offers in two days.

I think what ever i decide ill have regrets about it.

Guessing the 9.50 is a compound rate and they won't pay extra for doing late nights or Sundays?

Toss a coin. When the coin lands you'll know how you feel about the outcome.

Its not really care work as im not a carer its domestic ie catering, laundry etc plus im not stuck in a factory doing the same thing everyday.

But as i said the carehome work is poor money and weekend work,my brain is fried tying to decide, thanks for the reply anyways.

As silly as it sounds when i imagine taking one job i think of the benefits of the other job and that works both ways.:)

A if you fancy a change.

B if you want to continue on as present.

As far as i remember they wont .
As i said the money is **** but apart form anything else it would open the door to work in other sectors like hospitals, catering, etc so having the experience on my cv would increase my chances of employment in other sectors should i feel i want to move on from there.

But with the printing job the moneys 12.50 hr so its a big difference but the work is a bit **** and monotonous,me brain is fried trying to decide.

Would you get satisfaction from looking after old people? Would you be ok looking after people with dementia? Would you find it too upsetting when people you look after become more ill and die?

My father spent a year in an old folks home. A couple of thd staff were very kind and made a huge difference.

Its a good question and i could just say yes but the truth is i have never worked in this area before so there is always the chance i would not,and thats part of the problem, its a chance i would be taking and i may find its not for me.

I am not a carer and the job is a domestic job so i would not be in the front line in regards to caring.

Going back to your question and my answer, thats my problem do i take the chance (i would if i had no other offer)and work there for less money and work weekends or do i take the print job which im not to keen on but has better hours no weekends and offers better money 12.50 compared to 9.50 ph?

I know its my decision at the end of the day but i cant make my mind up,i was offer,d both jobs and accepted both just because the 2nd offer was the better money and hours but i have to choose one and my head is melted trying to decide.

On a side note has anybody any experience working in a nursing home as a domestic worker?
I love to hear their opinions regarding work they done and hours they worked.

    I would go for B.

I’ve done the late evenings and weekend work. It gets tiresome after a while especially when you can’t attend things that come up at short notice on weekends like family get togethers.

It doesn’t bother everybody but I’d much rather know I have every evening and weekend off so I can plan ahead.

The printer job is in a new place with new people. It might be a completely different environment.

Good luck with whichever you choose

Kinda leaning towards the printing to be honest.
Better money and better hours, might live to regret it but i can always leave if it doesnt work out.
