When to service the car?

So I’ve been wondering when I should bring the car for a service. Seems it will be first service as I was allowed to buy a service pack (which can only be purchased before the first service).

Checking the computer it say the engine oil will need to be presumably changed in December 2019 or in 12k km.

Vehicle check end of 2021, brake fluid 2020 and vehicle inspection in 2021.

Also the service history shows one at 6km milage done at the beginning of 2018.

I so far have 19k km on the clock. Should I keep to what the computer is indicating or should I service the car once every 12 months as it is recommended by some people and experts.

Second thing is I’m wondering should I switch from
Run Flats to standard tyres. More comfortable, cheaper to fix, weigh less, not as loud (so I heard didn’t get to experience normal tyres in my car). However I don’t seem to have any room in the boot designated for the spare. What’s the best way around it? Will I need to adapt the boot (presumably in the dealership) to be able to fit spare wheel and where should I source one incl. all the tools required. And is there any point really putting aside the it’s way more comfortable and quieter ride. I find it comfortable anyaway was thinking of getting either all season (or winter) Run Flats for the coming season.

If it's to be covered by the BMW service pack, +/- 1,500km of when the computer tells you it's due. Anything outside of that and you'll have to pay.

You can check if it's got the service pack either by asking a dealer or putting the reg into www.bmwservice.ie. If it doesn't have a service pack then you can get a price from there for what an itemized service will cost too. Also if you sign up for the basic €4.95 per month package here www.bmw-first.ie then along with free wiper blades and bulb replacement (except LED lights), you will get 20% off main dealer service prices.

One thing to note with servicing at main BMW dealers is that they will not update your car's online service history or reset the service interval if you get servicing down outside of when it's scheduled by your car.

Depends on how much you want to care for the car - a significant chunk of the issues affecting cars released in the past 10-15 years have to do with manufacturers recommending stupidly long service intervals (like 30k km for an oil change), no doubt in order to steer the buyer's point of view into "this car MUST be reliable if they say so!". Many manufacturers even claim certain maintenance tasks, like changing gearbox oil, to be wholly unnecessary...

At least an oil+filter change should be done every 10-15k Km...might be old fashioned thinking, probably modern synthetic oil can last longer than that, but it's a relatively inexpensive thing to do that won't do any harm.

Just for the earlier poster, yes it's a BMW 5 Series.

It's not that I want to care much or little for the car. I don't care in general, hence my previous car got a wash once every quarter or so and I just hoover inside when things were getting bit out of control, especialy with small kids. Now that they are bigger, I will imagine once a monthh hoover will do the trick to get rid of the dust and debris. I will probably do the ceramic coat so I don't have to wash it often and when I do it hopefuly will be quick and not a painstaking detail washing.

I'm asking about when to service as from what I saw on some videos on youtube it's recommended once every 12 months yet the car shows it needs service in over a year - which will mean first service of anything after 2 full years and maybe around 20-25k on the clock. I don't want to accidentaly void the warranty by missing a service (since I have to service it in BMW dealer anyway).

Just go by when the car tells you it needs a service - it is variable on mileage, depending on usage. My old E60 520d went to 33k ish due to usage, but we had an F10 recently that the light came on at 19,000k. If mileage doesn't trigger the light, it will come on at 2 years max and should be showing that on the iDrive system.

Re the run flats if you plan to ditch them best thing is to get a plug kit, some sealant and a small tyre inflator. Pretty much what a lot of modern cars have anyway. If its a sidewall you are goosed and it is roadside rescue time. You can get jack and spacesaver if you are really worried, but it won't fit under the boot floor and who wants that hassle of keeping a spare wheel in the boot?

Oh, and get an annual oil change, irrespective of what the iDrive is telling you.
