No wheel alignment report

I got my wheels aligned today by a main dealer.

I asked for the report, and they looked surprised and said they don’t do them. Next thing I was told that it was done at a different garage as their equipment was out of calibration.

Have always got a printout from other garages. Is there an issue here?

I bet they just did the front tracking, I don't believe that any reputable 4 wheel alignment company would do tracking without a before and after printout
Your mistake was getting a main dealer to do that work, far better to get a tracking specialist to do it.

Sounds like the main dealer did send it to a "specialist" to be fair.

I havn't seen any garage do front wheel tracking in years, but I've seen plenty of dealers who send tyres and alignment to a nearby operator.

I'd say the car came back without a printout and they just hoped you wouldn't ask for it or they didn't remember themselves that it wasn't there. If you ask them to get it for you, they probably can, most good setups will store previous jobs and they can be recalled and reprinted.

I'd expect a printout to be fair, a wheel alignment can be pricey and all you get that you can see is the printout.

Dealers usually get Fast fit/Advance pit stop etc to do wheel alignment as the cost of the machine & alignment ramp can be in excess of €20k. They simply don't have enough use to justify costs. The machines are being used all day in tyre centres so they make the money back. I'm sure it's done properly OP, perhaps ask where it was done as you want a printout for your records.

  • They said it was done in another main dealer in the same business park. I was told the car was still there, but when returned, it came from a different direction.

Charged €75 which seems steep if just the front was done.

I got the ‘rabbit in the headlights’ look when I asked for the report. Not at all happy with all the little inconsistencies in what I was told. First the car was on the lot, then in another garage and finally arrives from elsewhere.

The cynic in me thinks they probably got it done in a nearby tyre centre because they probably don't have the proper equipment themselves. The real cynic in me would think they probably charged you more than if you had just gone to the tyre centre and got it done yourself.

€75 is very steep, even for 4 wheel alignment.

I pay €40 in Galway. It's free if you're buying 4 tyres and you get the printout (as long as the printer is working :))
