    hi..could someone tell me if an agency place you in employment what does it cost or do they take a percentage of your salary?????

    Depends.

    Usually it's a flat fee, e.g. your monthly salary x 3.

    Other places actually contract you out to the employer and just keep a cut of your salary.

    When I worked in recruitment we charged the employer a % of your agreed salary or if you were contracted out it was €4 per hour on top of what you were being paid.

    The decision on whether it was a contact or employed position was up to the hirer, not the recruiter.

    You havnt said if its a permanent or contract role.

    In any case, you pay nothing to the recruitment agency. If its a permanent position they will get a percentage of your starting salary from the employer. This will be seperate to your salary, ie, its not a chunk taken from you.

    For contract hours they will charge the employer a particular amount then pay you an agreed wage which will be lower than what they (the recruiter) are charging the employer.

    If a recruitment company asks you to personally pay anything to them then walk away as they are crooks.

    half the time they just want to fill their books, most of the ads they advertise are bogus

    The norm for any decent outfit which I have worked with is 3 months salary, paid of course by the company. This can be negotiated on though in my experience.

    3 months salary. Some racket to be in. You needn't even be any good, just fire darts and hope for the best.

    In fairness it's not an easy job. I knew a guy who was a recruiter and his target was 1 hire per month. He spent his days cold calling companies, reviewing CVs, etc.

    He was a decent fella, not sleazy or rude.

    But the industry does attract chancers for sure.

    It's certainly a mixed bag, though that said some that I have met are excellent and have linked us up with excellent people. A recruiter who can make good pre-selections is great to work with, compared to those who have no feeling for the requirements and just end up wasting everyone's time.
