    Right enough is enough...

Why do they make yellow and green jellies/wine gums etc ??
They rarely (if ever) taste of Apple or lemon ! ( I guess that's what they are supposed to taste of )

I think you and the OP need to share packets of sweets from now on - everyone wins!

I will just say there's a reason why you can buy red and black in a packet together......

Why do sugar based sweets have to taste like anything? There is more than apples that are green, not that all apples are green!, and lemons that are yellow.

I want my green boiled sugar to taste like Brussels sprouts and yellow to taste like parsnips, that way we might not eat as much.

Well there is an answer for this. The good folks at Listerine where trying to make a floor cleaner and failed, they then discovered their concoction was good for oral cleansing.
If you've used Listerine, you know what floor cleaner tastes like.

But does not taste like jellies.

I hate the red and black sweets. Yellow, orange and green for me, thank you very much...so long as the green aren't apple-flavoured.

Didn't Skittles in the USA change green skittles from lime to apple and there was nearly a riot ?

I seem to remember something like that!

You need to get yourself a bag of these. I can confirm that most do taste as advertised, particularly the really disgusting ones

I'll eat sweets of any colour. Even the jelly bean factory jelly beans that have strange colours. I'll still eat them.

I like the white (pear) flavoured ones !!

Green and yellow are the best ones!!!!! I hate the black ones and barely tolerate the orange ones. I usually give them away. Once got a packet of opal fruits and bar 2 they were all the purple ones. I was not one bit impressed!!

They green&yellow aren't bad in opal fruits/starburst , (ps they are selling starburst now without that ridiculous wrapper on each sweet !! ) , but it was mainly wine gums and skittles that bother me most !

If you can smell it you have a fair idea of how it will taste. It's no mystery.

I've the same issue with skittles, I always buy three packets for exams (they're 4.5hrs long!) and filter them the night before and give the orange + purples ones to my fiance!

Would the starbursts not all stick together? Not wild about wine gums. I am def buying jellies on the way home!!

I just feel the need to comment that green (wine gums, starburst, jelly babies, I think skittles?) are usually lime, not apple. To my eternal disgust.

Usually prefer the citrusy ones. Tend to taste more fruity than the berry ones to me. Don't like strawberry or banana-flavouring.

speaking of which......why is so much raspberry flavoured stuff blue?

What's that all about? When's the last time anyone's seen a blue raspberry?

I had a discussion about this recently too, I was thinking maybe because otherwise it would be pink and unappealing to young lads?

Argh, I know this one because I remember it happening. Just can't quite recall. There was something to do with a colouring used being banned but maybe I'm confusing it with red lemonade.

One obvious point is that strawberry = red and strawberry is more common. Blue not a colour used much so if it can't be red anyway and yellow, green, purple, orange are out, kinda running short of easy colours.

Edit: amaranth! That was it, it was figured out as being a carcinogen in rats, albeit in large doses.

Eh - lime is a citrus (generally)

When I ask my kids what Flavour of Slush Puppy is their favourite, they both reply Blue, so maybe the flavour is just supposed to be Yellow or Green

True, I make an exception for lime. Mostly out of disappointment that it's not apple.

Yellow(Lemon) and orange are the least favourite flavours in sweets. Ask any shop and they will tell you that the loose pick 'n' mix Yellow and Orange jellies or lollies are the last to go if they go at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,705 ✭✭✭Mountainsandh

Yeah, I'm a yellow, green and orange jellies person too. Tangy and citrussy.

I eat the black wine gums, I don't like the flavour but for some reason I like that they're black.

The whole family had to do the rotten jelly bean challenge for the young fellow, I drew the freaking rotten egg most times, it really is putrid. Popcorn too actually, yuk. Good fun though.

The exotic fruit jelly bean mix is goooorgeous.
