Avoiding LEZ (Low Emission Zone) Charge?

Im confused by the LEZ website for the UK... it says you can avoid the charge by getting a filter fitted, but how will I get an approved filter fitted if I'm in Ireland and how will they know the filter is on it if I drive through as the Irish reg probably won't be in their system?

    Its a 2013 van I have... I don't know is it Euro 3, 4, 5, 6 or how to tell :confused::confused:

I dont want to pay £200 just to drive into a city :mad:

What happens if I just don't do anything? I don't wanna run the risk of getting flagged and stopped at a checkpoint if they have them and have the van impounded.

    thanks

If you type your reg into the free check on cartell.ie it will tell you which Euro spec it is.

Thanks, I tried that, but there's no mention about Euro spec anywhere when I type in the reg? I'm typing it into the main reg input box, I checked other links and there doesn't seem to be anywhere to put it again. All I get back is:

    Registration
    Make
    Model
    Description
    Engine Capacity

So assuming it doesn't qualify, what would my options be?

I used the wizard, cheers, but it doesn't ask much questions and I got this result:
    LEZ wizard page

You are affected by the Low Emission Zone but already meet the emissions standards
You do not need to take any action.

Is your vehicle registered outside Great Britain? If so, you will need to register it with TfL.

    How to register

    You said your vehicle:
    runs on diesel
weighs between 1.205 GVW and 3.5 tonnes GVW
was registered as new on or after 1 January 2002
TfL classifies your vehicle as a larger van or other specialist diesel vehicle for LEZ purposes.

I don't really get it, It gives options "between 1.205 ULW and 3.5t GVW" but then on the result page says: Between 1.205 GVW and 3.5t GVW

Does that mean any van with a GVW of 3.5t, registered after 31st Dec 2001, that runs on diesel meets the standards? Why does it say I'm affected by it then?

You still need to register either way.

I know they are planning something similar in France but its going to be a pain to sort it out country by country as I drive around Europe a lot in the summer.

They already have a system in France, its called Crit-air.
Cheap and easy to register though mine cost less than €5 delivered.

I posted it because there are spurious sites selling them for much more money.

So is it free to register and means I can freely travel through LEZ in UK?

It's not explained well on the website at all. I thought only brand new cars/vans would have low enough emissions to get through it for free and that all the others had to get a filter fitted or something like that.

with the French one, its great taht europe is open to travel around in, but you can't be expected to know everything about every country and not get caught out :(:(

Germany has a sticker as well don't forget.

So the French and German ones you mention are low emission zones too?

Plus there's all them vignettes you need for Austra, slovenia etc too.

What repercussions would there be if you drove from Dublin to Croatia, through France, Germany, Austria and Slovenia, through all these zones, without paying anything I wonder :D:D:pac:

Is it only bad news if you come to a checkpoint?

The French don't seem to be that strict on them, Germans I don't know as I didn't spend long there, Belgium saw nothing but they do have a disc as for the others ?
I bought a french one but never stuck it to the screen and was never asked, I guess a lot depends on the policeman on the day and your attitude.

I just wish it was easier to comply with all these things and you didn't have to go looking up every city or road you might be passing on a journey to make sure you're prepared.

Well you won't be exempt in lomdim from next March. Euro 6 or better in diesel or you pay £12 24/7. It becomes a ULEZ! (Ultra)

£12?? but that's just within the ULEZ, so an extended congestion zon?? I thought it was like £100 a day in the LEZ alone, or £200 if you're not registered? ****ing confusing :confused:

What determines the difference between EURO 1-6 and beyond? Co2 emissions or what?:o

Sorry that's an extra 12 for cars. For vans it's on this link. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/vans-minibuses-and-more?intcmp=54442

That kicks in from March for london

Looks to be the same for vans.

I went to register there and then it got me thinking, if I register, then they have a name and address matched with a reg, if I don't, then they don't. I also just found out you should allow 10 days for registration to go through, I thought it would be automatic :(

I'm going to be driving through the LEZ within 10 days, so now thinking should I forget about regin for now

Just another Q.. if I'm doing this on the transprot of london site, does this cover me for other LEZ zones in the UK too :confused: or I need to reg at each diff one, that'd be a right pain
