What are your thoughts and experiences of buying tractors from dealers not near you.

Some decent prices in the north with the exchange rate. Is there an extra cost to buy Northern or UK plate tractors?

Wouldnt think twice about it myself,in our experience the northern man is straight as a dye, never had a problem with stuff, told exactly as it was and odd time there have been problems no problem ringing them and getting sorted out.saying that its buyer beware, there's coyboys in every walk of life..no prob re registering, have to present at vrt offices, around here that's at nct centre.small fee and away you go..

I say if you were bold and walked into any tractor dealer and put a signed cheque in front of him you would be surprised the value you would get at the moment. Cars could be like that as well by March next year.

Dunno bass, few of my friends are contractors and they seem to be able to play dealers off each other and get better deals. Where as a farmer is only spending small money compared to the contractors the value wasn't coming thru imo.

Normally yes but at present a lot of farm machinery is sitting is dealers yards. Nothing is moving lads with a cheque will not be let out of some yards I imagine. Looking at car stock in dealers forecourts reminds me of a mini 2008 where suddenly cash became king in the car business

Heard that from someone in the trade as well.

Standing out like a sore thumb since late summer. Just guessed it by the way things are in farming and the amount of stock in tractor dealers yards. Lots of stuff imported from the UK is still sitting there 6-12 months later.

The car issue is all to do with pcp finance and crossover type cars. Residual value on PCP contracts was too high. Lots of cars traded early in the year still on forecourts especially lots of crossover type cars. Salesmen thinking they can control the market trying to pass on too much depreciation onto the 2nd buyer and giving lads buying new cars too good deals.

Realistically what sort of a discount could you get off a tractor dealer at the moment for buying straight a popular make of newholland/john deere???
If i could pick up something modern (10 years old) with a loader and power shuttle for €25k ,i would jump at it but the reality is there is nothing for sale less then €30k +

If you went in to 4-6 of them and had a 25K cheque I doubt if everyone of the six would hunted you out the door. At times it is about being brazen.

The usual stockmans tractor 10 years old ,tl100a/case jx100u with loader and p.s. are all north of €32k .the j.deere 6320 would be up on €34/35 same as ts100a .It would with difficulty you might source a zeter fronterra for €25 ,even at that I do not think these have a power shuttle

You’d buy a 120hp tractor for the same money as a 100hp tractor. I wouldn’t hesitate buying up north going by the prices I was quoted for a new hedgecutter. To be honest you could still get stung by a dealer that’s local or far away.

I very much doubt ya'd get a 10 year old for that money unless it was a very small yoke, or wrecked.

Wgat price you looking at up north for 10 or 12 year old 130 or 140hp with loader?

As others have commented I doubt you’ll get a 10 year old tractor for that money. There are some clean tractors from the mid 90’s to early noughties with power shuttles etc,. You’ll find a nice tractor for for that money but it won’t be a 10 old tractor. I’d rather a clean tractor that’s well maintained compared to a 10 year old tractor that will cost me a lot more. The year of a tractor wouldn’t bother me as long as it has a shuttle & a comfy cab.

Bought JD 6600 privately up north last April & the farmer was honest out. Go with your gut & even after a phone call a lot of the time you can often figure out if a fella sounds genuine or not.
