I'm looking at purchasing a new TV at the moment - budget of about €1,000.

I've been looking at a LG 49SK8500PLA - I'm wondering is there anything better on the market around the same price?

Also could I ask what are the main advantages of the 8500 vs the 8100.

    Hi Shane,

apologies for the delay getting back to you..:o

I really like the new LG SK series - I think the performance is super and with the recent price reductions it's really hard to beat the combo of picture quality / price they now represent.

We don't stock the SK8500 series - I think they are a retail shed exclusive but the main differences are - Headphone out socket / Additional USB input / Subwoofer / higher refresh rate - I can see the price hovers just above €1000 ( Currently €1049) - with the 49SK8100 now at just £699 / €799 ( Euro price includes delivery & our 6 year warranty) I'd struggle to think if the 8500 is worth another €250 - but again I'm sure it's an excellent TV!

While the 8100 is an excellent tv at its price point, the oled is another step up in picture quality.  The OLED's do give an amazing picture, but it is over twice the price.

I'm thinking I might go for the OLED - was price do you have it at?

Also, at the moment I don't have an AV receiver - I'm looking upgrading my system and thinking of getting an AV receiver. I have the following:

    Horizon box
Sonos Playbar and 2 Play 1s
Old xbox (not really used, will likely be upgraded)
Old apple TV (not really used, don't think I need to upgrade as not used)

Is there any benefit to me using an AV receiver?

    Hey Shane.

The current price on the 55B8SLC would be £1489 or 1699 Euro
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-202345-onkyo-txl50-black-av-receiver.aspx

If you changed to an A/v receiver you would also need to add speakers as you could not connect the Playbar or play 1's as speakers to it.

Sorry to keep coming back on this.

I will be walling hanging the TV and want to run the minimum amount of cables possible to the TV. I like the idea of the One Connect Box for the Samsung as it would mean only running one cable to the TV.

In terms of image quality how does the 55B8 compare to, say the QE55Q8?

What would be the best option for me if I was to go with the LG and wall hang it? Could I use some sort of media received for video and connect the sonos to the TV?

    Thanks

    Hi Shane,

apologies for the delay getting back to you..:o

    Hi John,

Would you recommend anything else compared to the LG SK?

    Thanks,

    Shane
    Hey Shane.

The SK range are great value for money and have any excellent picture.

You could perhaps have as look over the Panasonic 49FX750 priced at 1079 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-203462-401909.aspx

Or the Sony 49XF8577 priced at 949 Euro
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-203209-401602.aspx

    Let me know your thoughts.
    Cheers John -

Final question how would you compare the 8100 to OLED55B8SLC?
While the 8100 is an excellent tv at its price point, the oled is another step up in picture quality.  The OLED's do give an amazing picture, but it is over twice the price.

    Regards Stephen
    Cheers thanks for that.

What's the best price you'll do me on the 55B8SLC and the OLED55C8?

    I'm going to go OLED.

Are either of these likely to be in your Black Friday sale?
    Hi Shane.

Unfortunately we do not get told our Black Friday deals until the evening before Black Friday, so I would not have an idea of what deals will be running.

The 55B8S is still the same price as before at £1479 or 1699 Euro
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203506-lg-oled55b8s-55-inch-oled-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-tv-freeview-play.aspx

The 55C8PLA is currently priced at £1799 or 1999 Euro
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203216-lg-oled55c8pla-55-inch-oled-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-tv-freeview-play.aspx

Both these would include our 6 year guarantee free of charge.

We also offer a price beat as long as it is a like for like deal and follows our T&C's
    https://euro.richersounds.ie/t-pricebeat.aspx

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks
    Hey Shane.

The OLED for me still has the better image compared to the QLED's.

I purchased one of the LG OLED's a year ago and it still amazes me at the picture quality with a 4K source.

You can network the OLED and stream off a main hub for video and audio content but for external sources like Sky, Virgin, 4K player, games console etc will need wired via HDMI to the TV if you have no home cinema receiver.
If you have a Sonos Playbar then you would also need to run an optical cable from the TV to connect to the bar.
If its a Sonos Beam then it can connect via ARC using an HDMI cable for audio. (All sources would still need connected directly to the television).

I hope this helps a little.

Any questions please let me know.

Could I use a home cinema receiver for the video and have the sonos connected to the TV? It's a playbar. Sonos setup is playbar, sub and 2 play3s.

    Hey Shane732.

A better option would be to use an HDMI switcher.

We have a few available to us as special order.

Depending on how many sources you want to connect.
Pulse Eight 2 way switcher priced at £119
    https://www.richersounds.com/pulseeight-p8.html

Blusteam 2 way switcher priced at £99
    https://www.richersounds.com/bluestream-sp12ab-black.html

CYP have a 4 way one priced at £189.00
    http://www.cypeurope.com/store/store/app/product/EL-41S-4K22/4-Way-HDMI-Switcher-4K-HDCP2.2-HDMI2.0-IR

These would be a lot neater than a large AV Receiver and a lot less to go wrong with settings etc....

YOu would still then connect the Sonos playbar via optical from the television.
