Unpaid day at work for manual handling training

Say an employer says to their (zero hour) employees that they must attend an annual manual handling training day however there is no pay for that day, is that allowed?

Lets say it was queried and the employer replied saying that your only paid for client hours not training hours, however you can't work without an upto date manual handling cert and your not paid while attending the course...is that allowed?

Finally, lets say same employer says that employees must complete online mandatory courses (e.g. child protection topic) but the employees must do this at home on their own devices/broadband, is this allowed? Just to clarify the employees don't have a 'place of work' they travel direct from home to clients homes for the rostered hours.
