Ford Powershift Transmission

    Looking for people experiences with this transmission. I would be looking at one in a 2012/2013 S-Max with the 2.0 TDCI engine. I believe this is the wet version with a dual clutch set up.

    Have done a bit of research on here and in general and seems to be mix reviews. I appreciate that all major components can have 'bad eggs' so its more if there is a known issue with this transmission, i.e. BMW N47 issue.

    The two main things I have read are;

    At slow speed (less than 10km) the car stays in second gear so is slow to respond when accelerating as really should be is first gear.

    The clutch starts slipping and then leads to the warn lights and the whole transmission being knackered and needing replacing at even lowish mileage.

    Obviously more concerned about the second issue!

    We had a 2012 Ford S max with this transmission.
    To cut a long story short, the car ended up with a replacement transmission under warranty (after having to fight with Ford) when 18 months old after lots of problems and finally losing all drive.
    Even after new gearbox car was hesitant when pulling away and a nightmare at junctions/roundabouts.Would have to put it in sport mode at junctions to get it to take off smartly.

    Thanks.

    Did they tell you what caused the transmission to need to be replaced?

    No. We knew something was wrong with it for ages before they agreed to replace gearbox. Car would be constantly changing gears at steady speed and very hesitant. Only when it lost all gears and left us stranded did they believe anything was wrong. Up until then they said they could find no problem.
    Ford wanted to fit a reconditioned gear box and we and the garage had to push to get a brand new one which we eventually did. We were without the car for about 6 weeks. It was only 18 months old at this stage. We got rid of it after the warranty period was up as had lost confidence in it.
