I am looking to get a bike on the bike to work scheme. I have the full €1000 to spend but would like some essential accessories for this too.

I have been looking at the Trek FX3 and Zektor 2 - anyone have any experience with these or recommend an alternative? They are both similar spec/price - disc brakes etc.

Don't waste BTW money on 'essential accessories' that you'll likely pick up online for cheaper than the bike shop. Focus the money on the best bike for the task.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Trek FX3 - thinking of getting that or FX4 in 2019... I also believe the 2019 FX3 model will come with disc breaks as standard...

I bought the FX3 in the end with discs. Have commuted around 5 or 6 times and its perfect for the job. Recommend it

I'm in a similar enough position.
Commuting 5KM to work; it's a handy enough cycle but all uphill in, and all down going home.
Currently riding a Giant Bowery, single speed (my knees aren't able for fixed).
I used to cycle EVERYWHERE, but only cycling these days (since family) is the commute. I'd like to do a bit more in the future, but probably never going to be racing or anything like that.

From looking about, I'm considering the Giant FastRoad SL 1 - € 1,099

but, am now wondering about the Trek FX3 - € 659

€440 in the difference, with BTW, that will probably be about €250 out of my pocket.

    Any advice appreciated?
Any benefit in going for the Giant? Are these benefits worth the extra 250-ish?

    Thanks in advance

There is a world of difference between those specs.
Only you can tell if it's worth the cash.

For me this is a much better bike in the ball park of the Trek price wise: http://www.fitzcycles.ie/p/3423/orbea-bikes
