Great tractor. Get the electronic shuttle rather than manual if you are putting a loader on.

Pros would be it's fiat design and if it has power shuttle. The only con I can think of is the hitch...new holland are not good at hitches!

Bomb proof reliability and pokey little tractors. Typical fiat

Just had a look at a few in DoneDeal, there doesn’t seem to be passenger seat in them ?

When ever I upgrade again I would like a passenger seat for the young lad

Maybe that's a good omen ! Passenger seats in tractors are usually for a mechanic ?

There is a flat rubber area they can sit on up to 12 or fourteen but its getting small for my lads now.At the bottom of the window there are two studs and i just put a middle seatbelt out of a car back seat and there is a little hand rail at the back window as well.safe as houses

You can buy a John Deere type foldable seat and retrofit it.

But on the subject of passenger seats in tractors they can be a grey area. Was at a HSA conference and tractor seats came up.

The official line from the HSA is these seats were fitted to allow the training of new operators and not the carrying of passengers as additional safety measures are required. ( Fitting of a safety belt and additional door securing mechanisms to prevent the door opening inadvertently.)

Any harm to ask the details of the machine? Year, spec, loader or no, and most important price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭twin_beacon

very good machine, fairly basic and very common so loads of mechanics know them and loads of parts available. Ideal stock man tractor. They are a descendant of the Fiat 90s series, but a far more comfortable machine with much better cab visibility.

A lot of money for a 16 year old tractor. 4000 hours seems low too, is it one of those "parked up all year" Tractors?

I farm 135 acres. My main tractor has done 2400 hours in 10 years with me. A 90 hp tractor is a stockman tractor and generally does small hours.

A friend is telling me a Landini Vision is a better tractor and can be bought cheaper ? I think I would rather a New Holland

True. 2hrs per acre per yr. Especially if contractor does the majority of your work.

What have you? The winter feeding a few minutes every other day, bit of topping, few hours spreading fert. Few hours drawing and stacking bales.

Some lads would stay driving tractor all day, not sure what they're at!!

No blood relation at all, the only relationship they would have is that the Landini parent company ARGO is owned by AGCO, the company that owns massey (and Fendt, Valtra, Challenger....). But no components from the Massey 300 series ended up on the landini Vision.

the "A" models were introduced around 2004 on the TL series.
All the new features are listed here https://www.farminguk.com/News/New-Holland-TL-A-Series-tractors_1112.html

The Landini Blizzard 85 has the same engine as the Massey 390. The Perkins A4.248.

Anyone have any experience with the new Holland T5050 or T5060 tractors ? Are they as realiable as older TL 90 series ?

Traded a tl 90 for a t5050 a few years back. T 5050 is a superior tractor and extremely reliable. Will need a counter weight on the back for loader work but it’s a great machine.

Is the TL90 this generations MF390?

highly desirable second hand tractor slightly overpriced for what it is due to its reputation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭twin_beacon

Its a fair comparison to make. Both are fairly basic tractors that if looked after fairly well can last a lifetime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Muckit

When a tractor is popular, it's popular for a reason. Same with cars.

They're built on a solid foundation.....a fiat with 40k gearbox....and without the rust! Onto a winner from get go!

Fiats were a step above the 390 IMO every which way but they'll be remembered for the rust, which is unfortunate. Even the 80 series fiat way back in early 80s, just look at it's competitiors offerings. Fiat were always that step ahead comfort wise.

Yeah seen that one. Lovely yoke. But ld get it hard to go back to a yoke without 40k box now, not that l do loads of road work.

    Hi Folks,
On the lookout for one of these. They seem to be making strong money in the dealers (25k+ for early 00s).
Would the manual shuttle be ok if you were doing very little loader work? Or is it best to just go for an electronic shuttle?

My advice is stay away from dealers. There only fleecing you.
As regards the shuttles if you can get the electronic they great but if you can't and the tractor is tidy and good value go with the manual.

Not bad value here for a TL90a here with a loader ....8000 hours though.

Would you notice a difference coming from a 390 to one of these tractors power and comfort wise ?

What the f**k is he on about a manual shuttle ,that tractor looks to only have the same gearbox as a Fiat and a f**k up with a loader .
You would need one of them with power shuttle and a splitter in gearbox would be an added bonus .In my book that is a very dear tractor and not that desireable to trade in afterwards either!!!

Manual shuttle lever is at left hand side of seat, same as fiat 80-90, NH 6635, TL 90 etc

Looking at the photos there does not look to be any shuttle on left hand side of seat ,only 2 gear sticks

Gear stick on left of seat is the shuttle and the tyres do look narrow alrit.

    Also it's a 07 not a 08 tractor

Visions not bad, very reliable in general (fuel pumps about the only big common issues with them), manual shuttle ones have a God awful dashboard lever that needs a new cable at least once a yr, and if it's anyway lose and hard to pull I'd avoid that tractor, prb got abuse and whole dashboard mount could well need changing. Power shuttles aren't bad, except for it being slow enough to engage gears (which wrecks my head ill admit coming from a fully manual previously).

On the manual tl, the one in the photo seems to have ground mounted gear levers, on of the neighbours ts the gear levers are all nice short levers mounted up beside the arm rest, forward and reverse is very nice to use in my view, and the nicest manual tractor I've ever drove, I'd happily have one of them for in and out of a pit instead of a powershuttle that has more things to go wrong with.

Nothing to go wrong with a manual shuttle except you will burn out a dry clutch in less then 3000 hours

That's because they are two totally different tractors...The TL is derived from a Fiat, while the TS is derived from a Ford.
