Looking for an idea for next car, at the moment we have a Merc Glc 220, nice AMG kitted one in navy. Its on a pcp, only a year old at the moment so will likely keep it for the term but want to start thinking properly about what to get next.

Not fussed if brand new or old, or financed or not. Total budget for used say 30-45k.

    Things im thinking of:

    Porsche Panamera
    Audi A7
    BMW grancoupe

or an suv, x5, XC90 something like that.

a plug in hybrid would be handy as it would cover a lot of our driving.

whats the best value from the UK of ones listed above?

we have 2 kids, 2 car seats, main requirement is a big boot and decent looks.

X5 - XC90 you'll be looking at 2014 models in this price, even if they're imported from UK

The X5 plug ins are a decent value at the moment if you went up another 10k, I think an imported 2017/18 could be bought for around 56k-ish incl the VRT last time I checked (few months ago), when compared to 30/40d models which would be probably north of 70k for the similar year.

From what I researched the X5 hybrid wont give you more than 20km which could be handy if most of your driving is school drop offs and shopping most of the time. Unless you can drive the way that it gets the battery recharged etc which you mostlikely wont. But the idea of running most of the days just on the electric jus for me personally is very exciting. You'll be missing the extra seats in the boot area (not that they make much sense anyway in the X5 imo) and the boot floor is higher than in normal X5, though it's still a large boot. If the battery is empty and you forget or wont be able to charge it then you'll just carrying extra weight thus using more petrol. With the X5 from UK you'll be getting warranty in Ireland which is a plus.

Having said that the guy I was talking to said he would not recommend it based on issues/problems people were having with these cars. Another guy from the same dealership said that they change testing methods and this car no longer matched the required range to qualify for (not sure what) I presume tax discount etc. I didn't get any feedback from actual users of these models so maybe it was just him giving me the general sales rep BS.

You would get into a Tesla Model S from the UK for that sort of money. With free supercharging and loads of tech.

It's a good size, wide car. Loads of poke too.

Note on the Tesla (guy in the dealership here told me that) - if buying in the UK make sure the warranty is not void, they can only give this info to the owner/dealership also in the UK they allow for warranties to be extended, they don't do that here, does the extended warranty transfer from UK to IRL I don't know.

You will apparently void the warranty if you put different wheels, or brakes or even wrap the car and cover the sensors.
