Radiator Questions

So I am completely uneducated in plumbing and heating systems. I have a oil boiler and when I turn the heating on at the wall the roads downstairs get warm and only 2 of 5 or sometimes 3 of 5 upstairs get warm. I have tried bleeding and each time some air comes out of the rads. However even after bleeding them they don’t heat up. Sometimes when bleeding dirty water eventually comes out.

Any idea what the problem is and what approach I should take

Perhaps sludge blocking some of the rads?


What happens when you have lets say all rads turned down to no flow and only 1 or 2 that normally are not working set at full flow?


Do you have motorized valve and gate valve on hot water tank coil? Perhaps it has too much flow and it "steals" all the hot water.

Can’t say I’ve ever tried that. I can give it a go and see what happens
