Please help guys have the itch to change the car:pac::pac:
Budget would be about 9-10k along with my car as a a trade.

Currently driving a 09 a4 120hp se with about 155k km on it have it the last 5 years and bar general maintenace its served me well but the 3 childers are getting a bit bigger so i have it in my head an estate would be more practical.

Have been looking a lot online of late dont really want anything from Vag had 2 something different please:D
Have been looking at citroens c5 peugeot 508 2.0hdi, hyundai i40
think they suffer from clutch gearbox problems and not gone on the 1.7 in it

Quite like the look of Ford Mondeo 2.0 Titanium spec(perhaps a 2014)
but also have been looking at Mazda 6 2.2 seem to have a nice spec in them.

Anything else jump to mind lads let me know your thoughts and opinions
mileage wouldnt be critical id prefer something thats nicer with higher mileage than newer and poverty specced

Have a read up on Mazda diesels.

Are they still as bad as they were when first released i would have thought they surely sorted the problems by then.
Thanks for the heads up though Colm saves me getting carried away and jumping into something I might regret

Best is Honda accord but too hard to find one, mazda 6 are good value and providing you go for the 2.2 engine, should be fairly reliable, nicer to drive than the skoda superb and less of a typical choice.

I have a 141 i40 with the 1.7 engine and love it. I went from an A4 too, but the car does everything I want it to do, does the job on the motorway, reasonably good on fuel and loads of space.

I’d stay well clear of the Mazda6. I had one ( 131 reg). Had to replace the hand brake calipers (€700ish) at 101,000 km and Mazda didn’t want to know anything about it, as it was out of warranty. Even went to small claims court who could do nothing for me.
I traded it after that and the engine failed while the dealer had it ( oil leaks back into turbo).

My brother in law bought one(151 reg, despite me telling him not to) and has also had to replace both handbrake and front brake calipers.
Nice looking car, nice to drive but I would never touch another one of them.

FWIW, after the Mazda I had a Mondeo and loved it, changed it because herself wanted a Kuga.

I do like the look of the i40 but having read on here an a thread this week about the i40 having a design fault in the clucth gearbox im nervous.

I have owned my a4 for 5 and ahalf year and never had any concerns over the engine i just find im tired of it and want to upgrade someting a bit nicer and better specced
Now in those 5 years i have repalced a few things like the flywheel and clutch but that was in 2016 and have no problems since bar little silly things like bulbs going.

I have always serviced it before time and i know its a solid car im just concerned in case i change and buy a bit of a lemon:o

My problem is i looked and drove the Mazda and it was the first car i sat in that i said ya i want this:rolleyes:
Ive gone off it now because of the problems mentioned on here

Thanks for the honest opinion as you say they are nice to look at and drive but reliable they are not.

I have looked at Mondeos alright look a nice car ideally i would want a Titatanium or Titanium X spec what did you have yourself any faults you fiound with it

Would like to get a drive in one of the volvos bazz linked to for comparison but i wont get a chance in the next few weeks and by looking online they are scarce enough here.

I had a 152 reg Titanium spec. It was the 1.5 TD engine, and while that was fine, if I was to buy another I’d be going for the 2ltr engine. It was the saloon version I had, and the boot space in it is huge. The car is a nice drive, interior is comfortable and that spec had the full touch screen, sat nav etc. ( UK import)
I had it for almost two years, and had no issues with it.

Have a look for an Accord, I brought one in recently and they can be bought for pretty reasonable money now.

A bit pricey imo for the year but a low mileage Accord Touring here, just make sure to verify the service history especially the UK part:

Or a new shape Mondeo here for similar money:

Had a look at a few cars where that mondeo is yesterday but i wouldnt be dealing with that place in a hurry offered me 2k as trade in for my a4.
Gave me the impression they are more interested in dealing straight for their cars
Prices look good online but a lot of the stock isnt as clean when up close and looking started one car and definitely had an unusal rattle and fella said was me car was in mint condition:rolleyes:
Was going through service history on one mazda no sign of any history in the wallet asked sales guy and was told all details are on the screen mate

Yep, it was. I didn’t think the Mazda came in another other engine size?
