    Hi all,
Without going into the ins and outs, unless I have to, I require a medical report from a UK consultant. It was recommended by a solicitor.
The cost of said report is extremely excessive, in my opinion, but apparently crucial to have.
Has anyone had to get a similar report and could help with any info?
    Regards,
    KillWill.

Yes UK based consultants are very expensive,

Before employing that person you need to make some enquiries e,g,

    1. Is he ( here "male" embraces "female") eminent in the particular speciality?

2 Has he given evidence in Ireland already - if so is he good in the box as well as on paper, able to stand up to cross-examination?.
( You can only ascertain this from an Irish solicitor or barrister who has worked with him on previous cases ),

    3. Does he understand that his report may not be admitted and therefore he has to come to Dublin

    4. Some flexibility about staying over if case still at hearing.

    5. Many eminent witnesses would like it to be specially arranged that they are called first, so taxi to airport for return flight.
Might be time to explain the Irish phrase "Ní mar síltear bítear"

Would suggest that you ask a Consultant in Ireland for a recommendation if you're already attending one. It's also not necessary for the UK doctor to have previously carried out medico-legal work here in Ireland. They need to be willing to travel and testify & to know how the system works in Ireland which is not exactly the same as in the UK. Do your homework and try to check out as much as you can about the background of the expert, qualifications, employment history, publications etc. Ask for his/her CV.

Generally if it is a case against the HSE or someone similar an out of jurisdication expert can be required as they do not have any conflicts or fears giving evidence in such a case.

If your solicitor is recomended it I would go with his recommendation

    Hi all,
I need to speak to our solicitor to get further information. We got the letter Monday and I have been working since.
I believe that the fee is for a firm who source the relevant consultant required.
I just got a shock when the letter came through the door and the cost for the consultant blew me away. So much so I thought that I might have been getting conned ha.

You should be able to get one for a few thousand. Any more is a rip off.
